Contact Tzu Chi Buddhist University on their website, and apply for Mandarin Studies there. They also operate a very reputable medical training university and a nursing college.

You might acquire a student visa allowing you to stay for one or two years, but you cannot "immigrate" for a longer period unless you find work.

Hey Ty, I'm living in HK right now. It's very difficult to go to a University in China and the Financial Aid that is offered is VERY high interest. I would NOT recommend it.

Almost all State Universities have Chinese Language Programs, and almost all of them have at least One-Two Semester abroad programs.

For studying Chinese Taiwan is your best choice. China is very cheap, but there are a LOT of things you must cope with in China. First, out of 100 countries China was rated as LAST in terms of politeness, air quality, water quality, customer service, environment.

My first year in China I was sick with food poisoning multiple times because there is 100% more fecal matter in Chinese food due to worker uncleanliness. It does not make Chinese people sick because they're used to it.

Once in a small restaurant I went to the bathroom (squat toilet, yes gross), washed my hands and noticed there were dishes in the sink. As I opened the door a women rushed in grumbling in Chinese. The pots and pans were HANGING ABOVE THE TOILET and the dirty ones were being washed in the sink NEXT to the toilet. This was NOT a clean toilet either.

I did NOT go back there, but my Chinese friends and boss still constantly order food from random restaurants for the entire staff, sometimes from that restaurant. Chinese people have no concept of healthy food, they only care about $$$.

If you want to be a highly valued in Taiwan, study Chinese in school and learn it fluently, then perhaps get a degree in English and Business. You'll be able to sell yourself as a cross-cultural expert.

But Remember, if you come to China you will be in for the SHOCK of your life. Despite the Media's happy-go-lucky Nicey-Nice China image, they are NOT. Police carry Assault rifles, don't care about anyone's rights, and Chinese people only care about 1 thing, $$$. When they look at you, all they will see is $_$ China's leadership wants to take over the world and will stop at nothing to do it.

They've pulled out all the stops and are on their way to the top and instead of changing course it seems as though Washington is pushing them forward.

Lastly, Taiwanese people are a lot different, but in terms of desire to take over the world, they are not. Taiwan, China, and HK all have a STRONG sense of Nationalistic pride.

While currently HK and Taiwan consider themselves as separate from China, all of them still consider themselves as a 'superior race'. You will NEVER hear ANY Chinese person talk bad about blacks, whites, indians, ect, but the fact of the matter is that most consider themselves Genetically Superior 'because they are Chinese.'

In Guanzhou there are a few hundred thousand Nigerian and indian immigrants. I was in line for a taxi with Nigerians in front and Indians behind me. The officer asked me to step out of line and go ahead because none of the taxis would take the Nigerians and they didn't want to take the Indians. My friends tell me there are two reasons: 1. White people are easier to scam because Indians and Nigerians generally speak Chinese 2. Chinese people hate Nigerians because they so black and Indians because they're in competition with them globally.
