Except that the story fails to reveal details by which statisticians can decide whether or in what way the trial was randomised. True, a "subsequent pilot study, involving 20 new children, expanded the research. Half the children had their existing PlayStations upgraded with the eye toy function - the rest did not." But how were the children for each group selected? We have only Craig Borley's word that the study was "randomised." Would you trust an nzherald.co.nz reporter to make this judgment? Couldn't he have confused this technique from something else he heard?

If subjects of an experiment select conditions for themselves, then the experiment is observational. One way children could have selected themselves would have been by arriving for assignment earlier or later. I just don't know from the Weekend Herald.

I think you ought to dig deeper. Read the original Auckland University eye toy study or else look for a different study.

Take my word for it, student loans are not what they're cracked up to be. The ruin your credit, take forever to pay off and the interest can exceed the total loan by more than 110%. I borrowed $20K to start with and by the time they're paid off, I'll have paid close $70K in interest. They're a rip off.
