Study Skills Course
Ian Said:
How much do you think the Critical thinking and study skills course will boost my SAT scores? We Answered:
Flat out your test scores are rather low. BUT not without hope, everyone has to start somewhere and i started lower than you did. I took a prep course and it brought my SAT score up over 300 points( the first time, and more the next time i took an alternative prep course) because they show you what you need to know to better manage your time and know the patterns to look out for. math and writing are easier to get up than reading because reading is based on vocab and using maaaaaaaaaaaaajor context clues to your advantage. The course, depending on its reputation, should do the job, and if not...bring you very close.Rachel Said:
What A level course would involve the skills of history? We Answered:
Nearly all A-Levels combine at least some of those abilities and attributes. Try English Literature or Language, Art History, Sociology or Psychology or something involving Politics.Phillip Said:
Some feel that university students should not be given course on study skill in thier programme? We Answered:
I think that university students should have easy access to study skill courses because it will help more students to master other material and successfully graduate from their programs. At a time when some universities are trying to give students of different economic and cultural backgrounds opportunities that are appropriate to their potentials, it may just be that their early education did not stress learning study skills. Standardized testing has become an important part of elementary and secondary schools in my state and much classroom time is spent "teaching to the test", forcing educators to have to let other parts of the curriculum be cut and study skill classes are easily let go.
College learning is very different from that which takes place in high school and students may need to learn new strategies to become more responsible for their own education. There is more independent reading and more papers are required. New challenges call for new skills and so the university has a need to meet for many students.
Prospective students who see themselves as consumers of university programs check graduation rates, as do their parents. If a school can teach struggling students how to master their studies, the school's graduation rate and graduation rate in four years of undergraduate studies will increase and the school will benefit by attracting more students.
More students from more varied backgrounds, learning to learn will benefit both students and the university.

What skills did you need to study effectively at university? We Answered:
well for starters, its important to show an active interest in your chosen subject. you also need to have some prior knowledge of the course that you're studying and an understanding of some of the theories, ideas around your subject area whatever that might be. before i was at university studying for my degree, i undertook an access course and thus, the skills and knowledge that i gained from it was something i had to apply and utilise to my current degree. in terms of study skills, you have to be able to plan, construct and write an essay and an essay plan. this is essential when you come round to writing up your essays. i also learnt how to do an oral presentation, communicate effectively with my fellow students, being literate and numerate, as well as working in a team on a project. and whilst when i was on the access to media course, i did a research project, of which the skills i obtained would have prepared me for planning and writing up my dissertation during my final year at uni and where i am going to get round doing.i'd say to set aside some time to study and work hard on your work. people have their reasons for going to uni, but mine's was to study hard and concerntrate on the work at hand. to be honest, speaking as a final year university student, i'd have to say that the work you do is not that much different than at college. and besides, all the knowledge and skills you have obtained through school and college are still as relevant and crucial when studying your degree. so don't assume that once you get into university, all that knowledge and those skills from secondary and further education will be of no relevance to you and that you don't need to apply it, because the truth of the matter is you do and you have to. if you want to succeed at university, then you must concerntrate, work hard, learn the jargon, read the books that your lecturer reccomends, turn up at lectures and seminars, and just as importantly to enjoy studying what you are studying. there's no point doing a course that you're not happy with and to end up dropping out because you've lost interest in it.
i really hope it goes well for you and i wish you all the best in whatever course you decide to pursue.

Does FLVS' Critical Thinking and Study Skills course help with the SAT?We Answered:
Fellow Floridian, lol. I use FLVS too, but only for Spanish. I've looked at "Critical Thinking and Study Skills" and at my school, it's the formal name for our SAT/ACT Prep Course, but on FLVS there is also an SAT Prep course, so i'd suggest you take the latter.& I'd rather take SAT/ACT Prep at school for hands on experience/help verus FLVS, but if it's your only option, then i'd definitely go for it.

What are the proper courses for study in skills shortage Britain? We Answered:
The ones that pay the most are the ones where there is a skills shortage. That is why they pay more.In the USA
Here is a listing of the average starting and mid-career salaries for most 4 year majors. The issue here is that these only apply to people who actually got a job in their field. Little problem for BSc holders but things are not as rosy for BA holders. Many graduates in the lower half on the list never get a job in their field and are not counted.

The ones with the highest salaries are the ones in the most demand by employers. And the higher they pay, the harder they are. And generally the more math they require. And remember this survey only covers the students who got a job in their field of study. The lower paid the job on this list, the few the number of graduates in a particular major got a job in their field.
