Study Skills For Students

Edwin Said:

Hi im and designing a study skills booklet for students + hit a brick wall, wondering if anyone could help tks

We Answered:

Make an "idea web" where the word "Studying" is in the middle and as you start thinking about the topic jot the different ideas as parts of the web.

for example: some ideas might be "study groups/ tutorial reviews/lecture note reviews/jot notes/main topics" etc etc. Once you have done a really thorough brainstorming, then write your own jot notes for each topic. You will soon see which ideas are good and which ones are just "fluff"

Raul Said:

How do international students study in the US with little English skills & still manage to pass wth good grade?

We Answered:

Those whose primary language is not English must take an English proficiency language test and score high enough on said exam to get accepted in universities here in the United States. Those who do not score high have the opportunity to come here and study in an ESL (English Second Language) program and this is done in a community college setting.

So you are either referring to none legal, international (F1) students or you are over exaggerating in your question.

Claire Said:

Students, what one study skill seems to work the best for you?

We Answered:

After a lecture (or before an exam), I read (or re-read) the material myself and take my own notes. Then I compare my notes to the ones I took in class days before. My notes I do at home are always more elaborate and in depth than the ones I take in class. Then everyday, up until any exams, I just kind of go over my notes to make sure I've retained the information. I might quiz myself, have a friend quiz me or I'll quiz someone in my class. It just keeps the information fresh.
