William Said:

Would you hire me? Why or why not? Please be professional. Thanks! Layout is off b/c I had to cut/copy.?

We Answered:

It is a good start. But your cover letter needs to be more specific. For example, you mention the company is the type of progressive company, which you aspire to work. Could you be more specific and state exactly why the company is the right company for you. It will show that you did your homework and understands what the company is all about.
You also state you want to have a dynamic career, which is good. But I would expand on that a bit more and state exactly what you hope to accomplish in the future (like a senior sales representative or a manager etc)...You need to mention one or two specific examples or projects or difficulties that you overcamein the past that helped you prepare for this endevaour and generally what you have to offer for this position.

Good luck!

Can you tell me what career I should pick?

We Answered:

go where the money's at: biology.

psychology is a meh, because you'll probably end up as a school counselor when the economy has no demand for it, why supply yourself as it?

Wall street journal came out with a nice piece on college majors here:

Bob Said:

Can I get some help with critiqueing my resume?

We Answered:

I would change your objective. You might want to say: To secure a position in a secondary classroom as a social studies teacher that will allow me to utilize (add a few skills here). I would take out the part where you listed your certification in your education field. It is already listed in a separate field and there isn't a need to have it on there twice. You also might want to go and look at some sample resumes to see ways that they can be formatted.

How can this lesson plan accommodate to students with special needs?

We Answered:

Your activities are very good but I don't think you really need any adaptations for special needs children. If you provide good differentiation within each activity then you are fine. Remember that having special needs children in your class is all about inclusion which means they are to be included in what the rest of the class are doing and not sitting alone doing their own thing. If you have a child that struggles with pencil control due to motor difficulties then they could be playing 'farmyard pairs' with a friend in the class or playing a game on the whiteboard perhaps matching the name of the animal to a picture while others write. If they struggle with speech they could play an instrument during the singing or you could record animal noises onto the whiteboard and get them to play them at the right time. Could I suggest that you provide challenge for your more able children by adding to your objective. Some children will come to this topic already able to identify animals who can live on a farm, perhaps for them their objective could be to learn what these animals eat or what their young are called. And I don't know where you are going to be teaching but in Scotland where I am there is no way we would be allowed to hatch eggs or raise chicks in the classroom (health and safety would not permit it plus there are the dangers of children having allergies etc). Perhaps replace that with a visit to a farm or hatchery. Good luck, this is a very comprehensive plan, if you were my student I would be very impressed!

Angela Said:

I am preparing a lesson plan and the theme is a sunflower.?

We Answered:

With gross motor skills, you mean drawing? and/or coloring?

In that case, why not draw a big simple one yourself on the blackboard (or whatever you have) and let them "copy" and color it. You can put arrows to certain parts with words, such as "Stem" , "Leaf" , "Flower" , "Seed" etc.

Then you can pass along sunflower seeds to the kids to see, and if you can, a 'real' one , or a dried one they can take apart to see how the seeds grow.

If you want to make them really happy, you can give them some roasted sunflower seeds to eat (check if there are known allergies)

Discuss It!
