Study Skills Online

Jeffrey Said:

better school study skills help..?

We Answered:

Particularly in subjects you don't find interesting, take notes.

Get in the habit of writing down chapter titles, and key information from every page or lesson.

Write vocabulary down, and test yourself covering up the definitions and trying to state what the term means.

Study each subject daily, allow 10-15 minutes 'after' classes to review your notes and do any reading ahead of the next lesson.

Use a calendar to make notes on projects or reports that are assigned. Then work backwards to allow time for 'research', outlines, rough drafts etc. Mark those on the calendar too.

Good luck.

What are some courses I could take to better my study and test taking skills in San Antonio?

We Answered:

You are asking a very valuable and introspective question./

Contact San Antonio Community College and ask them directly.

I am also reproducing below answer prepared for others on the same topic.

It could very well be that you do not know the proper way to study./

This is an answer that I wote for someone else about study help procedures.

1. Have all of your materials ready and in the place that you are going to study.

3. Study when its quiet. No music, no TV, No headphones, no nothing.

4. Do your most difficult subject fist or else you may never get to it.

5. Keep a calendar so that you know when a project is due or a test is going to be given.

6. Vocabulary is very important. Words have different meanings. You need to know the meaning for the subject that you are taking.

7. Study the relationship of things. How is the topic that you studied related to the unit that you are studying?

8. Your textbook has hints for you. Many books have important words or phrases in darkened or colored type, make sure that you know them thoroughly.

The sites below are excellent and will give you many other ideas about studying.

It alse may be that you do not know how to take tests. This is a copy of an answer that I wrote for that.

Get used to the idea that as you advance in our educational system that work gets harder, standards higher and grades lower. It is a fact of life in most educational institutions.

That said, you may also be doing some things improperly. Are you taking good notes in class, is your reading comprehension good, do you know the techniques of proper test taking and are you studying properly?

I am giving you below answers that I prepared for other students on the last two items.

There are some techniques that can be used to make you a better test taker.

Some of them are:

Get a good nights sleep before the test.

Do not study the say before the test.

Read all the instructions carefully.

Answer all the questions. No blanks

In short answer questions leave the original answer once you decide about it.

In multiple choice questions look for the opposites in the choices . One of them is probably correct.

In writing an essay label carefully the number of each question and the section that you are answering.

Reword the question and use the rewording as part of your written answer.

Write neatly.

It is good that you realize that you need help in concentration and in study techniques.

Here are a few suggestions.

1. Have all of your materials ready and in the place that you are going to study.

3. Study when its quiet. No music, no TV, No headphones, no nothing.

You also should speak to your teachers and ask them how you can improve. Tutoring will also help.

Good luck.
