Study Skills Organization

Jamie Said:

how do you get better study habits and organization skills?

We Answered:

When you don't like a certain subject, it's hard to want to well in it, but it's crucial that you do. For me, math is one subject I can't stand, but I bit the bullet and tried hard.

These may work for you. The following is what I do:

Study
-Fun is saved for after I'm done studying for the day
-Flashcards (especially for memorization)
-Every day review until the day of a test/exam
-Breaks in between sessions (5 min. at the most)
-Ask the teacher for help

Organization
-Three ring binder with the appropriate number of folders for each class, labelled and in order of attendance
-The appropriate number of notebooks for each class (again, marked)
-Use of a planner (red pen is used for due dates and reminders)

I need a good definition of organization skills?

We Answered:

Basic Definition of organization skills:

Organizational Skills - Strategies used to organize oneself.

More Depth Explanation:

Organizational skills are essential in the workplace and are the key to getting ahead in the business world. You can stay on top of projects, beat deadlines and impress your supervisor with effective organizational skills.

Organizational skills help you stay organized so that you can manage your time, keep your workspace clutter-free, prioritize projects and stay on top of your schedule.

Someone who has good organizational skills is on time for meetings, never misses a deadline and knows how to maximize their productivity. These people work smarter, not harder.

According to the Free Management Library, there are various types of organizational skills you can employ in the business world. Some categories include self-organization, supplies and storage organization, desktop organization and task/project organization.

In the business world, organizational skills are invaluable to employers. Employees who exhibit good organizational skills get things done on time, can be depended on by their supervisors and will impress others with their skill set.

There are organizational tools available to help employees become, and stay, organized. Organizational tools include file cabinets, paper trays and daily planners.

i need organization skills?

Unfortuneately there are no quick fixes to any of these issues, but here are a few tips which may help you, which have helped me in the past.

Lets tackle the easier one first organization:
1. you have to be strict with yourself and always put things back when you are finished
2. take some time over the weekend and give your room the cleaning it needs
3. once you have it done, now you maintain it. just pick up you cloths, put them away as soon as you get them.
4. make your bed as soon as you wake
5. organize your closet by outfits, put shirts and pants that go together this way getting dressed is simple and easy
6. keep all desks, dressers, and shelves clear of clutter this will give a nice and neat appearence
7. always put your homwork and school projects in two areas on your desk, finished and unfinished. This was you can grab and go
8. always get everything ready the night before, lunchs, books, cloths and anything else you need for the day. This way your mornings are not so rushed and you won't forget anything.
9. create a claendar for yourself either on your computer, hand held divice or manually write events, tests, due dates for assinments on a calendar and check it twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

This is should be a simple and easy start for you to get organzied.

Test taking skills - its a well known fact that some people just don't test well, but at your age all your tests are based on what you are currently learning, so if you are completing all of your reading and homework assinments the tests should come easy. Personally I never had a very good memory so i would always read and re-read everything 2-3 times, make some note cards and flash cards with questions and ask my parents to quiz me. Also I would make appointments with yourself on your calendar for a minimum of a half hour everyday and at least 1 hour each day on the weekends and devote that time to reviewing the weeks and days material. This way if you ever have a pop quiz you will always be prepared. Testing well and doing well is nothing more than putting the time and effort into it, because it's very similar to life. Meaning the more effort you put in the more rewards you will receive. If you are having problems with a particular subject get the help from your teachers. Trust me teaches love to help and most of all teach! Just by asking your teachers they will see you are putting out the effort and trying to do better and they will go out of there way to help. Oh and one of the best things I all most forgot, go to the library to study. It's quiet and you will get alot more done with no distractions and that's something you should also put on your organizational calendar is time scheduled at the library.

I hope some of this helps, good luck!

Study Skills?

We Answered:

1. most important of all to succeed in anything: attitude and determination. good that you want it so badly.
2. time management - plan in advance for study time for each subject
3. school study is all about having the techniques (instead of the knowledge, sadly). so get all recent past paper, learn the pattern question, and memorize the answers (easiest by point form)
4. apart from the pattern questions, make a story out of what you're studying; like geography, if you're leaning about volcano, do look up in internet about it to get interested into the subject; if you're doing history, do comment a bit on the political strategies and persons, etc.
5. interpersonal relationship always helps no matter what you're doing, so get attention from your teachers, ask more questions. you may not believe but when you get a point or 2 more than the others from some open questions, you'll know why

I need good study skills!?

make sure that all of your assignments and books and such stay in the same place everytime. Remember to keep it in a certain place, and it will always be in the same place. Additionally, you can get a filing system (like a filing cabinet or a box with folders and dividers to put assignments that you've already dealt with and no longer need to carry around in that box.

Make a daily list of things that you need to do for the day.

Have a bulletin board, a white board, and a calendar handy for when you need to write things down and keep notes in one area.---having a planner also helps!

For studying, don't do it in a room with a tv or access to a computer. I find that studying in the kitchen or at a dining table helps. Don't do it in a bed, because you'll fall asleep easily as well. Have all of your supplies handy in a pencil box or container that you take with you wherever you want to study.

And remember that you don't need to study for blocks of hours at a time, it's not efficient. Try to do for an hour, then switch subjects, take a break, do another hour, switch subjects etc. you need to let the information that you're learning, absorb into your brain!

good luck! and remember that it will take time to develop proper study habits and skills as well as organization.
