Study Skills Resources

Resources to help with Study Skills?

We Answered:

First, give them very clear steps for checking their work. Kids don't totally understand what this means. They need to know exactly what they should be doing to show you that they have checked their work (like maybe circling key words, writing a sentence explaining why they chose the answer, etc.)
Then you can incentivize these things. Offer extra points if they do this, praise kids who showed did the extra work, offer small prizes like a sticker for every student who does what you want, etc. This will make kids want to take those extra steps. Also, make sure to make a big deal about improvement when your kids do the additional things you asked them to do. That way they'll see that it pays off.
Most likely, your kids just don't fully understand what you want them to be doing and why it's important.
Finally, you might consider doing something to increase student investment in their results. Try setting a goal for how they are going to perform on the end-of-year test so that kids are working towards that goal score all year long. They will be more accountable to each other and this might push them to do extra work as well.

Should men not study Human resources?

We Answered:

Some of the best Human Resource directors and managers I know are men. And I know a lot of them because I'm a HR manager (female). I got to HR meetings at least 3 times a year and there are plenty of guys there.

Study for a degree and mother to two babies?

We Answered:

I applaud your desire to better your future and that of your children, but babies are only babies for a VERY short time. Almost everything a child will believe about themselves and others is formed in their very early years. It is the basis for all future learning. If they feel they are not worthy of your full attention, it has a big affect on what they will believe about themselves. On the other hand, as they get older, they SHOULD see that your world is bigger than them. That way, their world will be also.

I have always been happy I didn't try to complete school while I had infants. I DID have to work full-time, and that was bad enough.

I returned to school after my children asked to spend some of their adolescence with their father. They were 16 and 18. Honestly, I'd have been too distracted had they been younger.

Especially if you haven't started your main HR study program, and you can do it without interruption...START IT 6-12 mos after the child comes. But don't lose your resolve to do it. If you start and then interrupt, it makes it easier to give up when the going gets rough. There is also the issue of your hormones. They WILL play havoc with you and WILL affect your ability to concentrate.

Perhaps you can approach some employers with your dream of HR work and get the oppty to work some during that time. This is also difficult, but will give strength to your degree when you get it.

Should men not study human resources?

We Answered:

If you enjoy this subject, there is definitely no reason why you should not study this. There are many different aspects of HR - and not just secretarial. You can enter this field with graduate studies in Inductrial/Organizational Psychology or Business Management. Moreover, anybody that is in HR will tell you that hiring based only on gender is discriminatory and against equality laws. If this is what you truly enjoy, then pursue it! Good luck!

Who do you think that researchers study the cognitive skills which compare humans and apes?

We Answered:

I'm not quite sure either. But I dont know how Professor Walbridge would react when all of her classwork is found on yahoo answers lol. It's ok to research, but it seems like you want people to just tell you the answers! At least you were smart enough to change your name. Good luck in PSYCH 41!
