Study Skills Tips

Brandon Said:

What are some of your study tips/skills?

We Answered:

I hated studying, so here is what I did that worked. I always went to class (in college, a lot of people skipped), and I took notes. Before a test I would simply read the notes I had written, and read the summaries at the end of the reading chapters. I might look over the bold words to make sure I know what they mean. I never spend very long studying (it seems like it would wear me out, start to confuse me, etc.), and I would always get a good night's sleep and eat a lot before a test. I would have confidence, and trust my memory, and build myself up that I was going to do good on tests, and I almost always did. Oh, and I take all the time they give you for a test, and if you have extra time, double check every answer.

Papers, sometimes if I couldn't finish a paper in time or an assignment, I would turn it in late because I wanted it to be good. Just always turn assignments in even if they're late (an F is so much better than a zero). Pick topics that interest you whenever possible, and you will enjoy papers and assignments better. Hope that helps.

what are really good study tips/skills/habits?

We Answered:

try flashcards or mnemonics. and when you read the material, become involved, as in relating it to yourself or situations in your life, not just skimming.

...as a last resort, write a little bit on your hand and do not, i say do not let people notice this.

What are good study skills/tips when trying to do well in college? I really want to get a 4.0 GPA?

We Answered:

well first of all 4.0 is a very high goal maybe set it a little lower so you're not disappointed if you don't get it, and as a university student my self i found that a balanced time table really helps, try not to schedule all your work intensive classes all in one term, if you can afford to don't work, and i find reviewing a class shortly after i had it is always good because its still fresh, don't leave studying till the last minute, i start studying about a week or so before i have a test, min 3 weeks before a midterm or final, and have a social life, you can't study all the time, if you do you'll just end up burning out, and study groups are great as well. Good luck

What are some good study skills and tips for college?

We Answered:

All good ideas so far. And if you have access to a video or DVD program in the library called "Where There's a Will There's an A!-College Level." it is full of great strategies for success. I did the tapes after I had been out of college for 15 yrs (just before I went back to change careers). I never learned such common sense study skills like this in school. At least not all at once. I guess it worked. I graduated Summa.
Best wishes and enjoy the experience!!!!!!!
