Studying In Canada

Stacy Said:

What is the procedure for an Indian studying in Canada, to visit America ?

We Answered:

There is a new site for immigration to America and visitors to America. I will look up the URL and attach it. You must be extremely careful to follow all ules for both Canada and U. S. The rules for entering the United States from Canada are changing--you will have to show your passport each time you cross the border between the two countries, and probably answer immigration questions and fill out forms. Here is the new link:
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

Information on visiting the United States is on the top left of the home page of the link above. It should answer all your questions.

Best wishes on your plans.

Is it allowed to work full time in Saturday & Sunday while studying in Canada for a foreign student?

We Answered:

Not legally. On a student visa you are not supposed to be working, but you may find that the College does have some jobs for foreign students. Ask the college.
You would not have a Social Insurance # so in theory you could not be paid legally.

What are the options for a US citizen who wants to live in Canada for 10 months without working/studying?

We Answered:

If you want to take the easy (expensive) option, just go to Canada and come back to US everytime ur VISA its about to expire..(its like 50 min train I think)...

Karl Said:

Do you need another visa to stay and travel in Canada after studying for 8 months?

We Answered:

Almost certainly yes. When you complete your studies your have to leave the country. In practice you have a few days to do so but I doubt you will be granted a month. I suggest you contact the Canadian Embassy and ask the experts, If you have not abused your existing visa I would expect a 30 day tourist visa to be granted provided that you can demonstrate the ability to support yourself.

International student looking to work out costs of studying in Canada?

We Answered:

money wise it is moronic to go to college and then university when all you need is a university degree. If you have the grades, go to university right off the bat, instead of paying two schools for what becomes the equivalent of one degree.

it WILL be more expensive for you to go to university outside the U.S if your American, universities in any other country will charge you international fees. Because you are not a Canadian citizen and neither you nor your parents tax's have been going into our university systems our universities will charge you a lot more money to make things "fair".

For the program you want, international studies, I ( A Canadian student) am paying $5,600 CND (a.k.a Canadian dollars) in tuition for two semesters (plus housing, food, textbooks etc . . . which evens out to be about $12,000 a year total) you as an international student would pay $18,300 - $19,800 CND in tuition (plus the additional $6000.00 in living expenses) That is for university of Waterloo one of the top three universities in Canada. It is located in a fairly low cost city and it's tuition is about average for Canadian universities.
It would probably be a lot more economical for you to go to a cheaper university in the states.

slovak citizen studying in canada marrying a US citizen in the US?

We Answered:

I think you question is "Do you have to return to Slovakia, to apply for the Spousal Visa?

If you are a legal resident of Canada, and plan to stay there for the next year, you would not have to return to Slovakia. You can marry here, or in Canada, then have your Husband apply for a Spousal visa for you. You would have your interview in the US embassy in Canada. The process is taking about 8 months, so just apply well in advance of the completion of your studies, so you can come directly
to the USA once your studies are complete and you have your visa.

K-3 visas are no longer popular. Department of State is working on phasing them out, it seems. The visa you would apply for is a CR-1. That is actually good news for you, because that visa is about $1,100 less expensive ($1,100 less US government processing fees)

Best of luck with your studies and marriage.
