Test Taking Study Skills

Marian Said:

Terrible Test Taking Skills?

We Answered:

Well, make sure that you are understanding the material. If you are studying and doing your work, it all doesn't mean anything if you don't understand the overall concept. I suggest doing things like making flash cards about important concepts, meeting with the professor after school or just making a list of questions that you need answered before you study, and maybe even studying in small amounts. (in other words, study a little at different times instead of all at once...which can kill you)

As far as getting nervous, that's fine...I used to have the same problem. However, if you study so that you understand the overall concept, eventually during the test you realize just how much you know and the fear will go away. If you still feel crazy and can't settle down either take a deep breath and close your eyes for 2 minutes and gather your thoughts or go to the restroom and wash your face really quick and get ready.

So, basically...all I can suggest is preparation. It's all about preparation. Good luck.

Good test-taking/studying skills?

We Answered:

-Immediately cross off answers you know are wrong
-When reading a question, circle key words (NOT, EXCEPT...)
-If there is no penalty for guessing, answer all questions
-When there is a penalty (AP exams), answer the question if you can eliminate at least 1-2 answer choices

What are some proper test taking skills?

We Answered:

Be sure to find out how the test is scored so you can infer a good strategy. You need to know if a skipped question is scored as incorrect or not, for example. Also you need to know if it's a power test or a speed test.

For many tests, scoring is rights minus wrongs, so guessing is not a good idea, and time management is important, so you answer when you know, but if you can't answer quickly you skip and go on to the next one. Then when you reach the end, if you do, you go back and work on the ones you skipped.

My wife is an LPN. When she was in college, she would record the notes she wanted to learn and play them back while doing other things or driving.
Hope this helps!
Good luck.......
