What Is Social Studies

Lois Said:

What is the difference between social studies and history?

We Answered:

History is a more specific subject, and while it is part of what is known as "social studies", it is only one among them. Other social studies subjects are geography, sociology, anthropology, linguistics. government/political science, gender studies, etc. As the name implies, social studies tends to deal with society and everything related to it. While any good history class will deal with social topics (as history does not happen in a vacuum), it sometimes helps to delve into fields like sociology in order to understand why things are the way they are. At a basic level, history deals with what happens- it answers the "what?". Social studies subjects help answer the "why?". Social studies is largely synonymous with "humanities" at the college level.

What is an interesting subject for social studies?

We Answered:

A friend had the same project! How about what people will do/how far people will go for money. A lot of reality TV shows involve crazy or dangerous activities with the promise of money...is it worth it?

Good luck!

What is the difference between a Social Studies class and a History class?

We Answered:

All of the classes you listed are social studies classes. Sociology and Anthropology are two other social science courses I can think of right now that you didn't have on your list.

What is a good studying technique for social studies?

We Answered:

You could look up a world map without the names on it (blank), and save it in your documents. Edit it and try to name all the ones you need to study! It's fun I done it before and it helped me alot.

Ruby Said:

What is the difference between social studies and history and science and science lab?

We Answered:

The social sciences are courses that study the human condition - why we behave the way we do. History, geography, civics/political science, economics, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, and the like are social sciences. In high school, the courses are usually history, geography, and civics/government. Some offer economics and psychology courses.

The sciences (usually called either natural or physical sciences) examine how natural and physical things work. Classes such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, astronomy, geology, and the like. They often have a hands-on lab component but not always. This college specifically wants labs with your science.

History - pretty much self explanatory. While history is a social science, this particular college specifically wants you to have history and some other social science.
