California Teaching Jobs
Margie Said:
Is it worth it to even continue to try to find a California teaching job, or just give up and do office work?We Answered:
It sounds like you are stuck in a rut! I almost pursued an aide position, but then heard about exactly the same type of thing you are experiencing possibly happening to me if I became an aide when I do have a teaching degree. I decided to not pursue a teaching position right now, because there are no jobs in Illinois either. Instead, I looked at our local colleges and universities and found a position within the local community college working in the Upward Bound Program. It is a program for disadvantaged kids-high school students. I am able to help them get on the right track for college, prepare lesson plans and activities and monitor their grades. I am a teacher without a classroom and a set curriculum- it's kind of nice. :) Maybe try and find a college in your area that offers programs like this and get in! I think it will look good to not only have a college as an employer on your resume, but also this shows that you have a LOT of experience with a diverse student body (and your an aide now too, so your working with Special Ed.? Additional bonus!) And this position pays a lot more than an aide position does. I hope this helps! You can research "Upward Bound Trio Programs" in California, or look into "Running Start"- this is another program that services high schooll students and usually is ran from a college or university. Good luck, and I hope this opens some doors for you!Freddie Said:
Is California a good place to get a teaching job?We Answered:
budget cuts.we have teachers out of work. I work in Los Angeles, the area most in need of teachers - and unless you are a math teacher - you currently have little chance of finding a position.

Can I get teaching job with a Misdemeanor of a burglary in California? We Answered:
This is the question you're going to have to answer when you apply for a credential.Have you ever been convicted, including a conviction based on a plea of no contest,
of any felony or misdemeanor in California or any other place? You must disclose
your conviction even if the case was dismissed pursuant to Penal Code Section
1203.4. You may omit misdemeanor marijuana-related convictions that occurred more
than two years prior to this application, except convictions involving concentrated
cannabis, which must be disclosed regardless of the date of such a conviction.
If the answer is yes, you must submit a full explanation on a separate sheet of
paper. Include dates, location, offense, and a short summary of the incident(s)
that led to the conviction(s). See instructions regarding submitting required
documents.

Should i bother becoming a sub teacher in southern california with the shortage of teaching jobs?We Answered:
yes you should go for it and while looking for a job you can take up Higher studies to update your qualifications.Norma Said:
What is the best state for teaching jobs?We Answered:
Yes, California is probably the WORST place for teaching jobs right now. This can change from year to year. When I was in school North Carolina was hurting for teachers so badly they were offering sign-on bonuses and paying for you to fly in for interviews. (I'm sure no one's offfering that is this economy)
It depends on what you teach. If you teach special education, you can basically pick your job anywhere because there is a nation-wide shortage of those teachers. There will always be lots of competition for more specialized teaching jobs like music, art, PE because those are positions schools look to employ as few people as possible to save money.
I continue to hear that Texas is in a teacher shortage. Arkansas has been mentioned also.
You might also want to consider the organization Teach for America. This organization will place you in a district that desperately needs to fill positions--however it's usually because these schools are in very poor or violent urban areas. I would never consider it, but I know a few people who say it was the best decision they ever made.
