Darren Said:

How much should a dance teacher make?

We Answered:

I think it sort of depends on where you live. My daughter was getting $10.00 per hour when she first started teaching. Mainly because she only had three classes per week.

Virgil Said:

How do you become certified in teaching dance?

We Answered:

The "better" jobs go to dancers who have had professional careers and have trained other dancers for careers in dance. Getting certified will get you a job in recreational dance classes such as RAD or some other syllabus. Check what you want to be certified in such as RAD Ballet and take the certification course and exams. RAD tends to me the more popular certification for many dance schools. Here is a list of a bunch of certifications for different syllabuses. You can contact any for teaching certificate programs. http://www.dancestudiolife.com/tag/dance…

Brandon Said:

How do i get a job teaching dance in public schools?

We Answered:

Not many public schools teach dance, except as one segment of phys ed classes. There are, however, schools or performing arts that teach an academic curriculum along with performing arts specialities. In either case, you're going to have to have some qualifications as a teacher -- either academic qualifications or dance qualifications.

Tanya Said:

Teaching my first DANCE class? pointers anyone?

We Answered:

First of all, please always remember, they are 4-10 year olds and they have never danced.

If you remember that, you will have so much fun, You are not training the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, so its okay if things are not perfect. First, start by getting everyone in a powwow circle, its the home plate where you come to discuss important things. Most usually the girls will sit quietly and listen, tell them the rules while sitting in the circle, one person talks at a time, easy. Introduce yourself, tell them your pets name, and why you love to dance. Everyone does the same. Remember, kids these age love to talk, so try not to ask direct or long winded questions to retain order.

start with a warm up. Something simple, neck, shoulders, abs, hips, things, calfs, feet, whole body, stretch. Then do some simple across the floor exercises, maybe some kicks, or turns. Then teach them a simple routine. Pick something that has a nice heavy beat, perhaps something a little hip hop/jazz. You will be just fine if you remember this is just a dance camp for kids, not DCC, not the BENGALS, its okay to have fun, to goof around and to not know whats coming next. write down in a note book the music and things will you need so you are all prepared. have fun.

Mathew Said:

I want to move to Co and find a job teaching dance. Any ideas?

We Answered:

If you want to open your own studio I'd strongly recommend you get your RAD exams, teaching diploma, A.D.A.P.T., and whatever else is required in your state. If you don't have that you'll be hardpressed to find an insurance company that would give you a business license.
I'd also strongly suggest you get one of the following:
A degree in business with a minor in dance
A degree in dance with a minor in business management
You can go to your old studio and ask if you can teach as an alumni, but most other studios will require that you have your teaching certifications before they hire you.
