Anita Said:

Teaching in Georgia, cert question?

We Answered:

Go to http://www.gapsc.com/

That's the website for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. They are the ones who give the certificates. On the right side of the main page, there are some listed "Steps to Teaching." Follow those links to answer any questions you've got. There is also a toll free number listed that you can call with any questions you might have. I'm not sure, but there may be a program you can get into that will allow you to get a provisional certificate that you can teach with until you manage to get your clear renewable one.

Good luck and God bless.

Are there jobs in Georgia? how is the economy in the state of Georgia?

We Answered:

Unemployment is in double digits here. You won't get a job unless you are native to area.

Your choice, so good luck!

South Carolina Vs Georgia, Which is best to live?

We Answered:

The SC coast is very pretty, but also very populated w/retirees and tourists. The cost of living, at least along the cost, is not as cheap as you'd think. But I don't have any personal experience living in SC.

I have spent a lot of time in Savannah, though, and love it. It's a very short drive to the SC border, & even shorter to the beach on Tybee Island. There is "new Savannah" which is suburban sprawl, strip malls & fast food, which I say avoid at all cost. Old Savannah is breathtaking & full of life. There are 3 universities there, including an art school & a historically black college. There are a lot of public & private schools so you'd have no problem getting a job. It looks like New Orleans with old oak trees covered in Spanish moss and wrought iron everywhere & a park (called a "square") every other block, literally. If you love social studies, history, or the arts you'll love Savannah. The cost-of-living is a little higher, but it's a trade off for a higher standard of living.

My experience is that there is no more racism there than elsewhere--but some people (in both states) are more likely to proudly display their Confederate flag than up north/out west. I don't think there is a difference in rural poor between SC & GA.

Outside Savannah you could also easily find a job teaching, but unless you're in Atlanta (HIGH cost-of-living) there is not much else to do aside from go fishing. :)
