How To Teach Spanish

Joseph Said:

Have you ever used Spanish Leapster games to teach Spanish to children?

We Answered:

My parents used Leapster games to teach my niece, and it seems to work pretty well. Though, she occasionally sings the songs:p

Eva Said:

If I have a degree Spanish Language and Culture, what else is needed to be able to teach Spanish in a HS?

We Answered:

I am not aware of a fifth year after your B.A., however, a teacher certificate (credentials), or licensure is required. Each of the 50 states has its own requirements, but many have reciprocal acceptance for teachers who have earned their credentials in other states and want to teach in a different state from their learning. Here is a site that will explain credentials and what the requirements are for each of the states. Good luck.

¿How to teach Spanish to a mixed class of english speakers and heritage speakers?

We Answered:

First being a non native spanish speaker teacher, is good that you will begin teaching spanish, because you have the advantage of knowing how difficult can be for non spanish speakers.
I think that one of the problems will be that one part of the class will have an advantage over the others, and the non spanish speakers will feel a bit out of context.
Maybe one thing could be to make most of the lessons and interactive one, with mixed couples (non native with native spanish speakers) and ask them to write something based on your class.
That will integrate, the students so they will not feel that "I am in the spanish speakers section or I am not there".
I think is a big challenge, but the main thing here is to integrate the group, so everyone feels part of the class.

Good luck!
Cheers!

We Answered:

I believe you have to have quite fluency, not perfect but your level should be advanced, besides you have to take the test which is very hard to pass.
