Importance Of Teaching

Marvin Said:

what is the importance of teaching history to the learners?

We Answered:

The more we know about the past, the better prepared we can be for the future.

I won't go into more detail for you as this is obviously a subject which you have no intention of learning about.
I mean what sort of imbecile would think that history is irrelevant to them?
Who...?
Only a yogurt!

Can you give me some sites on the importance of teaching writing skills at secondary level?

We Answered:

Even at the elementary level, I have this problem. I teach a gifted class and one of my students, whose father is an engineering professor, claims that his dad insists that writing beyond high school is a waste. (Of course, this student's writing is horrible!)
Because most of my kids are motivated and want to be successful adults, I emphasize that if one cannot write when they get into the business world, they will truly be at a loss. Speaking from personal experience, I worked as a curriculum specialist for an educational software company, I think I wrote more in one year than I had throughout my years as a student. Being able to communicate effectively can mean the difference between a raise or promotion and being passed over or layed off.

What is the importance of teaching strategy?

We Answered:

So you know when someone has learned, rather than students posting questions on Yahoo answers and foisting it off is as their own work.

Thanks

What is the importance of teaching integral exponents to students?

We Answered:

I love math but have rarely used exponents for real world/life problems that I can recall.

Knowledge of exponents is useful when trying to find areas and volumes as the formulas for these tend to involve variables times themselves, and being the terse bunch that they are, mathematicians won't tell you the area of the base of your cup is pi*r*r.

For practical reasons, when working with equations with large integers, I sometimes factor the integers into a form like 2^3*3*5^4*7 and leave them like this until the end. That way when I'm multiplying and dividing things on both sides I can really easily see what's going to cancel and don't have to multiply large values as I go, just increase exponents. This is the most "use" I've ever gotten out of exponents, and it can be a time saver.

That and you're tested on 'em ;)

What is the importance of teaching aids in science teaching?

We Answered:

Using aids while teaching science is important for many reasons:

1. First, people tend to not remember what they're told if they don't have a visual to remember it by (especially if it's information they aren't highly motivated to remember). The only parts of Chem 11 I can still remember are the concepts which were taught by demos.

2. Students who are not academically inclined automatically tune out when a teacher is standing in the front and droning on and on about a topic. When there's something for them to watch, they end up paying attention and becoming engaged (in most cases).

3. Students who are not native speakers may have a very difficult time understanding scientific words, but if they have something visual to see, they can understand the concept and understand the new vocabulary faster

4. Lastly, using demos allows students to see scientific equipment being used - some of which they may not have a chance to use themselves . Demos show students exactly how certain concepts were discovered (such as the above example of showing how we know the air is only made out of about 21% oxygen).

What is the importance of teaching children about their home?

We Answered:

When teaching little ones it is important to start with things that are close to them and that they can relate to. They need to have a picture already in their minds so that the teacher can build on that. We teach them about "homes" in order to make them aware of their environment and surroundings. There are so many other things linked to the themes that teachers choose to teach - learning their sounds, word association, spatial awareness etc.
Hope this helped.

Can someone provide me with links to sites on the importance of teaching punctuation?

We Answered:

You only have to look at some of the questions on here to see that punctuation is not being taught correctly. This site may be of some use to you.
