College for a teaching job in this state? We Answered:
Call your local principal. I would actually call two or three schools and get their opinion.Lillie Said:
Why are there no Sub jobs?We Answered:
As you noticed the person said IC..and no it has nothing to do with laid off teachers(as of now)..that may be in this persons area but it is not the case here..IA is a whole different ballgame. There are no teacher sub jobs due to the high number of students that just got there teaching license and are subbing for the district. Since many of them did their student teaching in the IC, NL,Coralvile area, they will fill sub positions that are filled outside the Aesop system. Sadly it is very rare to see teacher sub positions on the system. I am a sub also and it would be an outstanding week if there was 2 jobs the whole week. Which I am sure you already know.
*I will tell you something that I am sure you do not know..because they do not tell people this. If you are a sub teacher and you take a job as a sub para you WILL get the same pay. If you go in as a para and the hours are 8:30-3:00(which most are at Elem. Level). You will get a full day as a teacher marked on your yellow sheet. So that means you will still get $110/day..I have only worked as a sub para since I have started working for this district. As you know it is really the only jobs out there..
As far as jobs goes, I do not see much coming up. I am Inst. Strat. 1 also, and I have only seen a couple jobs in the area(one in Highland and one WL). I am not sure if the one in WL was filled or not, as they never respond. Which as you know, is nohting new..lol

Can anybody give me info on Teaching? What kinds of insurances do you get, ect?We Answered:
These are very difficult to answer - because every district in the US has a different answer to the first one, and the other two really do not apply.Insurance: teachers negotiate with their district on compensation packages. This means my pay and insurance is collectively bargained.... every district in the US will have a different answer to this question. I am enrolled in a large HMO here in Los Angeles, I have a co-pay and my district negotiates changes every time our contract is up. I have had to change doctors many times. My dental is currently paid for about 80%, and I get 100 bucks towards glasses every 2 years.
vacation: none. the kids get traditional vacation time - I work *every* day. I was grading papers on Thanksgiving, and Ive planned every day during what people call summer break. Anyone who goes into teaching thinking that holidays and breaks are a benefit of this job are quickly disillusioned. Now there are many teachers who will use this time differently than I do - but for me - the work load is too much for me not to use all of my time effectively.
promoted? There is nothing to promote to..... administration is not higher than a classroom teacher - its just a different job classification.

Can Someone summarize this article for me like NOW?We Answered:
A teacher called Gary C Lindsay was fired from one job for sexually harassing a girl in 5th grade, but taught for another 40 years and was accused of the same thing half a dozen more times before he gave up his teaching licence. It was a victim who stopped him, not a third party. There is an average of 3 abusers for every school in America and most incidents are not reported. Educators abusing children is not as well known to the public as the clecical abuse that occurred in the Catholic church. The government has not done much to address the problem.
