Maryland Teaching Jobs

Peter Said:

The best private institutes or colleges for Web design and development in Maryland?

We Answered:

There is a reason you don't see credible degrees in "Web Design": There's not enough in "web design" to fill a degree. Usully web design is 2~4 courses within a larger study of Computing.

There is one hidden gem of a school in Maryland you ought to investigate: Capitol College, in Laurel. Capitol College offers a decent degree in Computer Engineering Technology, and related degrees such as Software & Internet Applications.

Howard Said:

Moving out of state for UNDER a year (PA to MD)?

We Answered:

New Maryland residents are required to change their driver's license, registration, and car insurance within 60 days of moving to the state. The fact that you plan to move again does not negate this. After 60 days, your license would be considered not valid. If you were pulled over and ticketed the cop could, at his discretion of course, also write you a ticket for driving without a valid license. If you were in an accident, your insurance company could deny paying the claim since the car isn't "garaged" (their term, even though it isn't necessarily in a garage) where you told them it is. And then once you change your insurance, if you haven't changed your registration, Pennsylvania will pull your plates for not having Pennsylvania insurance.

It's actually more of a hassle not to do the change then change it.

As for the address for banks, etc., there is no law that states that you have to receive these at your legal residence. You can receive them anywhere you please.

Real estate, rentals anyone know a good area within 30 miles of Potomac Maryland that is not over priced......

We Answered:

try www.zillow.com for a start. "Overpriced" is a very vague term...try www.craigslist.org for rentals available in your (her wanted) area. Both sites are free. And consider a two or three month rental by you (her as a roomie) if possible--you get a little cash, she has a secure rental until she finds decent housing, everybody wins!! hooray!!! Good luck to you!

Can a Maryland teacher accept new employment?

We Answered:

Not 100% sure why--but it may be that since you received a satisfactory rating on your performance and were told you could return to your position in the fall, your contract may still be in effect. I teach in CA and all states operate differently. I would contact your union rep if you can and see if they can tell you why you can't take the job. Also, if you have a copy of your contract, you can see if there are any codicils about accepting another job when you are stil employed by your district. Good Luck!

I just graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, I live in the mid-west and am planning to move to the?

We Answered:

Try to find a job as a teachers' aid or something to start with. I am willing to bet that lots of teachers' aid don't even have degrees. So, that would be a means of getting your foot in the door until you get your certifications in the area.

Maryland Information please?

We Answered:

Unlike in Massachusetts, where each town has a school system, each county in Maryland and the city of Baltimore has its own school system.

As for areas to avoid, I'd avoid the western part of the city. The eastern and northern parts of the city are much nicer. If you're looking for suburbs near the city, look at around Timonium, northern Anne Arundel or eastern Howard Counies. You'll find that things cost about the same in Maryland as they do in Massachusetts.
