you need a credential - it is different. A masters is within a subject field. A credential is all the methods and curriculum work you need to teach. Credentialing programs also include your student teaching.

As part of your credentialing program, they will evaluate your undergrad classes to see if you have all the right courses to be considered highly qualified.

You can always do a tutoring service for kids. You can search for local tutoring companies, or you can join a site like www.LessonsCentral.com to help you advertise your services. by doing lessons independently you can set your own fee. I give lessons and make a decent living. If anything it could be a part time solution until you figure out what you want to do.

That sounds like a great plan. To be honest, you don't even really need to get your bachelors in teaching. It would be nice, but my feeling is that after 10-15 years you'd need to brush up on pedagogy and new ideas in the field (things are changing quickly!).

A lot of people (career changers) decide they want to become teachers mid career and usually have no problem getting into a masters program. Places like USC are even offering MAT programs online now that are supposedly very good. This kind of a thing might be perfect for you when/if you decide you want to change paths to becoming a teacher.

Do you already have teacher certification? If not, you will need to make sure to get that as part of your grad program. Normally the MS in teaching would make you look better when applying for jobs, especially if you didn't do a lot of education courses as an undergrad.

Since you already have your BA in the field you want to teach, an MA in lit isn't really necessary. I would only choose that one if I already had the teacher cert but was considering pursuing jobs besides teaching high school in the future.
