We Answered:

Sooner than 4 weeks? I would think not.

Teaching program that will pay for masters?

We Answered:

Pretty much your only other option is the loan forgiveness program. To get the full amount, you need to teach in math or special ed. Otherwise, you need to teach at a low income school. Here is a link:

Unlike corportate workers, teacher's don't get reimbursed for extra schooling, but are expected to have it!

Stacy Said:

In the NYC Teaching Fellows, what are the chances of being accepted to the program?

We Answered:

The acceptance rate is 15%, if you get in you need to worry about about where you get placed in the end. Schools are very rough. In my school, students tried to poison a NYC Teaching Fellow. The teacher ended up in the hospital for 3 days as a result of the students actions. The principal did nothing.

Ida Said:

Has anyone ever heard of, participated in, or is a current fellow of the NYC Teaching Fellowship Program?

We Answered:

I've heard of it, but I didn't apply there. Last year, I applied to both DC Fellows and Philadelphia Fellows and got interviewed by both programs. I decided against it because they typically place fellows in the worst schools and that can be very stressful. But, if you don't mind teaching in such schools, it seems like a good way to get your foot in the door. It seems like hiring is getting more and more competitive these days.

Viola Said:

Can I get a teaching certification without graduate school?

We Answered:

they are called internships.

call your local districts and see if they have any district interns, or contract out for university interns. The problem is that this is only in high needs districts. (because of recent budget issues, layoffs - there really are no more high needs districts)

If you were to be a math teacher, I might have better news....

Viola Said:

What is the best school to work for when accepted to the nyc teaching fellows?,?

We Answered:

Try looking for the schools in the areas you are thinking of on this website: http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/go/N…

It gives all kinds of statistics about all the schools in an area, including ethnicity and the percent of students on free lunch.

I used it when I was trying to decide where to teach.

Discuss It!
