Online Teaching Employment

Clarence Said:

How can I make a break into teaching?

We Answered:

Right now in Texas school districts are laying off staff due to budget cuts from lower than expected tax revenues as well as a decrease in state and federal funds. The credentials you stated are excellent ones to get a position but many of the positions are not there right now.

Here are some suggestions ... 1) if you live near a large city many large school districts like Cypress-Fairbanks and Katy in the Houston area pay up to $125 a day for a certified teacher substitute. On average public schools pay from $60 - 80 a day for substitute teachers with the higher pay going to those with a certificate and a degree. 2) Contact local private schools in your area and apply - they do not pay as much as public schools but it will get your foot in the door. 3) Contact your local learning center as in Sylvan, they pay a low hourly rate but many have contacts with local districts which may widen your search area. 4) Contact your local MHMR and look into counseling positions or caseworker positions as you have the SpEd credentials. 5) Go on the Texas Education website and search the Educational Service Center notices for openings, links listed below ...

These are not much but there is at least a starting point ... Good Luck!

Is it possible to get legitimate online employment?

We Answered:

Wouldn't you rather create something for yourself rather than just do data entry for someone else?

USE the Internet.

The Internet is a second home. It's the easiest, most flexible, and most convenient tool for finding information now.

Think about your favorites or bookmarks. You probably have a huge list of sites (sorted, if you're lucky, into folders!) about gardening, news, holidays, recipes, shopping, Christmas, family health, games, tips, TV, finance or whatever else catches your fancy.

And the reason you bookmarked those sites? They gave you useful information.

Now think about all those other people out there on the Web. Who are they?

Moms, dads... single parents, grannies... sporty types, couch potatoes... teachers, homeschoolers, music freaks, would-be chefs. They all seek the same thing. And that is, of course, quality, relevant information for their kids, gardens, home projects, hobbies, and the list goes on and on.

Surfers love Web sites that reflect the owner's passion about a specific topic (i.e., painting, dogs, travel, scrapbooking, etc.) They are excited to find articles, advice, and ideas that respond to their needs or fuel their dreams. And when they discover a site that appeals to them, they will return frequently.

You too can do this too.

What is your passion? What information, based on your experiences (life, education, employment), could you share? How could you help someone else?

Everybody knows something about something. Identify it and then write about it! There are thousands and thousands of people who want to read about it - and spend money on it - now.

My site was created just like this. I love to help others and I know a lot about resumes, so I created a site about that. A link to it is below. I make money on my site and so far, I don't sell a thing. That will come as my site continues to grow.

Believe me, if a 40 year old mother of two children can do it, you can, too.

It's an honest business because I created it myself. I will not do anything to "rip off" anyone else. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I did that.

The first link is to my site. The second link is to the site that I created my web site with.

Not that it matters, but I live in the Dallas area. When we moved here from OKC a few months ago, this was the perfect business because it goes where I go.

How do I answer an Employment Fitness Supplement or find help online?

We Answered:

It's a fancy, beat around the bush way to ask if you have ever assaulted (ie beaten up) another person. Sometimes arrests are hard to find in a criminal records check, and sometimes records are sealed.

In the scenarios you described, you can safely and accurately answer 'no.'

Has anyone had good employment with online degrees? ?

We Answered:

I wouldn't go to an online college for an undergraduate degree unless they were reputable college prior to offering the on line degree. This eliminates a lot of schools from what you are saying. Just my opinion.

The accredidations offered are not national, just regional. ?It means if you attend a college on line from Florida, it will transfer to some Southern colleges only.

Note, I would never get a graduate degree from an on line, unless they already offered for many years that program at their facility.

Teaching English Abroad Requirements?

We Answered:

It depends on the kind of English you want to teach and where you want to go. What you seem to be talking about is backpacker English teacher which has several teach abroad websites and jobs can be found on Dave's ESL and Korea Teach and several Teach China websites. Most places prefer an ESL certificate from Cambridge. The pay for a backpacker teacher with just a BA is low, lodging is usually provided but not held to any particular standard, and you usually have opportunities to learn local languages and visit interesting places. If you are lucky, you may find a better position with the Cambridge certificate but without experience it is still likely to be a backpacker position.
Most often the pay is enough to live on within the country sometimes a little more, and you can even find places that pay for your flights there and back.
I have been teaching English abroad for several years now, but I hold an MA in Teaching ESL. I do recommend the experience, but make sure to check out the company you are looking to work for as there are disreputable companies and I have even seen people stranded in countries.
And don't hand over your passport to the company (you may need to go through the visa process... but you need to get it back).
Good luck dear.

Online courses -alternative teaching license - employment prospects?

We Answered:

If you already have a bachelor's degree, the certification process can be a lot faster in most states. If you are seeking a math certification, you will be required to have taken or to take some math courses and your student teaching will be in a math class. This is a specialty area and a math certification will license you to teach only math. Most states actively recruit math teachers and any course that is accredited by the state should satisfy prospective employers. Be aware that school officials sometimes favor graduates from certain colleges, or programs, albeit not officially. Taking courses online does not mean that you are not taking traditional coursework, just that you are doing it in an untraditional way.

Discuss It!
