OK, more practically speaking.
1. Join LInkedin (linkedin.com)
2. Can you substitute teach. It's at least teaching and keeps you in the game.
3. Any daycares you can start a music program at?
4. Don't forget your Alumni office. They'd prefer you to not be a statistic too.

Don't assume that no one hires. Someone does. BUT, frankly who you KNOW helps greatly.
Do your friends know you are still looking? Do your old teachers?
Do you keep in contact with them.

Being alone when you are looking for work is your enemy. Sign up for any job fairs, teacher fairs that you can find.

Try not to lost hope, and take any answers here with a huge grain of salt.

Job Openings Website--- A couple of years ago I used a website with tons of job listings on it. Unfortunately it was a subscription site, but it wasn't too expensive and it was well worth the money.

To find the site, go to http://www.teachinginterview.com ....scroll down and look for the "Education Jobs" link.

Good luck with your job search... it's a tough job market in Rhode Island (as you know). Still, it IS possible to find a good job if you're persistent. :)
