Overseas Teaching Jobs

Ray Said:

advice for teaching overseas. where do I start?

We Answered:

A bachelor's degree in just about anything will open up a lot of doors for you to teach overseas. Knowing the language of the country you wish to go to will be an added bonus. Having your teaching degree will help YOU immensely (I cannot stress this enough), but it is really not necessary for most EFL teaching jobs overseas. Having TEFL certification under your belt will help with many, though not all, overseas opportunities. Go to http://www.tefl.net/ to find out more.

How much they pay will entirely depend on where you go and whether you teach in private schools or the public school system. Chances are, it will be comparable or slightly less than here. It could be significantly less in the beginning.

If you have a degree, you present yourself well, you speak English clearly and you understand the native language, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job.

Teaching english overseas is a really exciting and rewarding experience. I wish you the best of luck!

Is it possible to get a teaching job overseas with a BA in Psychology?

We Answered:

It would depend on where you would want to go and how desperately they need teachers there. A degree in Education would be better.

I'm thinking about teaching overseas in September. Does anyone know any good sites to search jobs?

We Answered:

I'm thinking about teaching in Taiwan in a couple of years and I found this great website that connects you to apartments, jobs, and others in the same situation. (http://tealit.com/) I don't know if you're interested in Taiwan but from what I've read from (http://transitionsabroad.com/) , which has loads of info about different job, travel, and study opportunities in lots of different countries, Taiwan has a big demand for native English speakers and pays pretty well with a very low cost of living. Check out both websites, I hope they help you!

Teaching job overseas for the summer?

We Answered:

There are overseas opportunities that pay, but by the time you pay for your plane ticket, you won't have made much. It's good for the experience, not for the money.

Try teaching summer school either at your school system or another in your area. Ask local childcare centers if they are hiring for their summer programs (they often need extra staff). Finally, you could do summer childcare in your home or babysitting. Summer camp is also an option.

how do I find out about teaching jobs for the dept of defense overseas?

We Answered:

The Department of Defense Edugate Website has information for DoDDS (DoDDependent Schools overseas). Call 703-696-4430 for information.

The Department of Defense Education Activity has a Human Resources section of its Website, too - http://www.dodea.edu/offices/hr/employme…

Good luck!
