Pe Teaching Jobs

Herman Said:

What steps are necessary to become a PE Teacher?

We Answered:

At the school that I am attending (also for teaching), you need to get an endorsement in physical education if you didn't already minor in it. I am sure that it varies per school. Some schools combine health and physical education. You may want to talk to the University where you got your Bachelor's and check out some other schools too.
Good luck!

PE teachers, please help me prepare for a Elementary PE interview!?

We Answered:

Two items to stress in your interview:
1) Physical fitness for all. Design your program to involve proper conditioning, like stretching exercises and perhaps some weight training.
2) Participation by all. Don't play games that eliminate someone from a game so that he or she sits around for your PE period. Always play a game that allows someone to "help" or get that other player back in the game.
Special note: For students who don't dress out at our school, we have some stationary bicycles. At least they get some exercise!

I want to teach PE, im in 4th year high school , im getting 4s in some of my physical:(will i be able to teach?

We Answered:

Be sure to apply to a school that specializes in training teachers of Phy-Ed. You do not have to be good at all sports to be a PhyEd teacher. You do have to know how to demonstrate moves and principles.
"Those who can; Do. Those who can't; Teach".
Our high school swimming coach never once got in the water because he was afraid of it and could not swim. BUT: He could demonstrate strokes while standing on the pool deck.

How do you go about applying for a teaching job in Hawaii?

We Answered:

I visited Hawaii recently and noticed plenty of public and private schools that you might want to consider. You can google the Hawaii State Board of Education and find plenty of opportunites. As for private schools, those should be available in any Yellow Pages directory for Oahu. It's a beautiful place.... you will love it!

Question about Teaching Degrees and Endorsements....?

We Answered:

I think the Health endorsement would take longer than the Drivers Ed one. Atleast here, everyone is teaching drivers ed.....and with most schools getting rid of it, even more people are getting drivers ed endorsements. Sounds like hubby is looking for a HS job as well. Maybe he should try for a K-8 job. He'll probably have more luck....he'll learn to love the kids. I actually found that I like working with the little ones even BETTER. Happy hunting.

Teaching jobs in Las Vegas (Clark County School District)?

We Answered:

I'm sure you have no need to worry. They try recruiting me to teach there all the time. I have never shown interest in it and I have IA licensure. I have no idea the need there for your area of teaching. They contact me for special ed jobs. Not much of a need for PE teachers here. Jobs are far and inbetween. Most schools only have one PE teacher. For this reason, in my state all teachers must be classroom teachers. Meaning if you are an elementary PE teacher you also student teach and get your certification to teach in a K-6 classroom. In my case I can teach in a regular k-6 classroom and in a special ed classroom.
