Primary School Teaching
Carol Said:
What's the best route into Primary School Teaching? We Answered:
College - 3 A Levels, choose something you know you'll do well in, you should be aiming for Bs. Try and go for the primary subjects (maths, English, science, RE, geography, history, music, language, PE) rather than things like media studies and IT.At university, you can either go into a degree you have an interest in, such as an English degree. When you have spent 3 years completing that, you'll go on and do a primary PGCE, which lasts 1 year.
An alternative is to do a Bachelor of Education, which is a 4 year (3 years at some universities) degree which focuses primarily on teaching.
Edit: Yes you learn all of it in your PGCE. It is a very demanding year, you do less practical work in schools, as well. Most people who do a PGCE don't have a part-time job to bring in money; they simply don't have the time for it. It's also a very, very competitive course, so you'll need lots of previous experience before applying.
People who do the PGCE have the advantage over BEd students if they ever leave the teaching profession, they have their previous degree to 'fall back on', so to speak. Whereas if you do the BEd and then realise that actually, maybe teaching isn't what you want to do full-time for the rest of your life, you have no relevant qualifcations to another job and would need to go through university again.

how long do i have to stay in uni for if i want to study primary school teaching? We Answered:
A Bachelor of Early Childhood or Primary teaching is 3-4 years depending on the state you are interested in. The 4 year degree is becoming the norm.April Said:
How do i get into primary school teaching???We Answered:
Get a degree - Make sure it is an interesting subject. Later you can study to add a Bed.Doing it this way leaves your options open - You might decide in 4 years after a year at univerasity that primary teaching is not for you.
