Teach Child To Read
Clarence Said:
how do I teach a child to read a ruler ?We Answered:
1st step: Make sure child grasps the concept of measuring something by lining up objects- like paperclips. Ask "how many paperclips long is the book, remote, pencil, etc." Get the child involved choosing things to measure with the paperclip. Sometimes this is a hard concept and difficult for their fingers to manipulate. Work with this until the child is completely competent before you move on to the ruler. When you start the ruler -- One of the most common mistakes is not starting at "0". Some rulers have a little space before the measurment starts. Some rulers don't show a "0". Some rulers have no space. It is very frustrating for kids. For a slow learner- I would use rulers that start measuring right at the edge because it most like measuring using the paper clip. Just remember that when they get the hang of correctly measuring- you will have to teach the additional step of starting to measure from the 0.
Good luck and try not to get frustrated.

What is the best method to use to teach a child to read?We Answered:
1. Read, read, read to this child. Get them to love books.2. Sing the ABC's. Get her to recognize the individual letters by sight.
3. If that is grasped, start teaching the sounds the letters actually make. Short vowel sounds on those vowels first though.
4. Get her to memorize with you something like twinkle, twinkle little star. When she has it, print it out on a big poster size paper. Take her finger and point through it. A child's first real break into reading is that they have Concept of Word (or COW).
5. Get that older sister to read to her.

What is the best way to teach a child to read age Kindergarten? We Answered:
Start reading to him and with him. Get some simple books at the library that repeat a few words like "Goodnight moon" or "The Up book" etc.Once you read him the book tell him that everytime he see's the word "Up" or "Cat" or whatever he's to say it when you point to it.
This is what I did with my son. I would point to each word as I read it and when we came to a word that he recognized that was his turn to read the word. Even if he only recognized it at first because I was pointing at it and he knew his word was "up". It didnt take long before he started associating the letters Up with the word even if they weren't in the book form.
Another trick is find a word that is commonly seen like "Stop". Show him the word in a story and do as I suggested above. Then the next time you are out someplace everytime you see a stop sign or another sign that has the word stop on it, ask him what the word is.
Once he can make the connection between letters on the page and words we use all the time he'll be on his way to learning how to read.

How young is too young to teach my child to read sight words/?We Answered:
Of course not. Anything that your child is ready and wanting to learn go for it. Just like the preschool teacher said they already are teaching it in the 4 yo class. My daughter knew her shapes, letters, numbers, and colors by 2 and I couldn't stop her. She wanted to learn more and is always asking to be read to. Thats average and very normal to learn those things at 4 and earlier.Tommy Said:
Parents: In your opinion what is the ideal age to teach a child to read?We Answered:
When they are excited and keen to learn. It seems bizarre to me that you're imposing such a narrow age window on kids - two is "way too early" but four is too old? Nonsense. Some two year olds are ready, some four year olds really aren't.How much is the child understanding at two? Depends on the child. I caught my son sat on the floor with the magnetic letters from the fridge well before he was 3, going "c-a-t cat, b-a-t bat" and so on. No way he could have done that if he hadn't understood. He's sitting behind me right now, reading a Star Wars novel for pleasure. He's just ten.

What is the earliest age that you can teach a child to read?We Answered:
me & my husband bought our daughter's first storybook when she was barely a month old.I started reading to her at about 2 months...though it seemed like she wasnt paying any attention when i read, I guess she did...
when she was about 4 months, she would follow with her eyes the pictures that I'm pointing at while reading. Everytime she became fussy I'd ask her if she'd like to read a book with me..then she'll settle down and look at me expectantly!
She's 20 months now...with lots of books to rip out..but she never does it! she just loves going through the pages and is already learning a lot of words everyday.
I guess it's never too early to introduce books to our kids. Though it's too early to teach them to read, it's never too early to teach them to love books.
I guess it's the first step to make them want to learn how to read.
goodluck!

Fun games and ways to teach a child to read?We Answered:
When I read to my kids, to make sure they were following along, I would intentionally read a wrong word so that they would have the opportunity to correct me. I would make it obvious - like instead of "The Cat in the Hat", I'd read "The Cot in the Hat" or "The Cat in the Bat". If they didn't correct the wrong word, I'd stop and question them if I read it proper.
