Teach English As A Second Language
Gregory Said:
When countries teach English as a second language in school, do they teach European or American spelling? We Answered:
Ukraine teaches European English, speech and grammar.Charlie Said:
What would I have to major in to teach English as a second language? We Answered:
You get a double major; in education with ESL as your specialty. If you speak another language you may consider picking that up as a minor. It can help you to get a job if you should move or need more options. Also, I did Spanish and French and that is the exact reason why I got my last job; the double certification. If there is a chance that you will move back to the US then be sure to keep up with the certification requirements. It is a lot easier to keep it current than to let it lapse and then renew it. Usually it means taking 2 classes every 5 years, but first you have to get your masters. You can teach while you are obtaining your masters degree.

What is the safest place to teach english as a second language? We Answered:
USA. There are plenty of places and opportunities for an instructor of ESL or ESOL. I teach ESOL and Citizenship classes at a local community college. I know others who teach in the public and private school systems.Hoped this helped. Check out our class website, listed below, if you want to question the students about this or anything else.

Educational requirements to teach english as a second language around the world? We Answered:
Are you looking to teach EFL in the future or now? If you are looking for long term a MA TEFL is ideal, but short term, as long as you are a native English speaker and have a TEFL cert, there is some school that will take you even without a college degree. Requirements to teach English as second language in The Netherlands? We Answered:
Not wanting to put a total dampener on your dream, I have to inject a little reality and the fact is that the chances of you being able to do this is very slim indeed unless you have a specific training in special needs or somethingFirstly English is spoken at an exceptionally high level here as a second language and as a result Dutch university teaching graduates are well equipped to fill such vacancies. Indeed there are even special degree courses in the Netherlands which specialise in training people for teaching English as a foreign language at near native level.
I agree also that you would need fluent Dutch to teach at this level (to be able to explain "why" "what" "how").
Secondly is the bigger hurdle which is namely that as an American, you will need an employer who is prepared to apply for a work permit on your behalf and this is not an easy prospect.
This work permit will not be granted unless it can be proven that the candidate is the only one that can fulfill this position (on the basis of experience or skills) and that non-one else in the total pool of labour in the EEA can do the job instead. This is not easy to prove unless it is a highly specialist position. As a result most online applications now state that any applicants must already hold a permit or status which allows them to work in the country.
If you want more specific details then you can read here (a similar question) to save me retyping it over again http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
Bear in mind also that there the UK & Ireland are part of the EEA and therefore it would be very difficult to prove why you are able to fulfill a vacancy ahead of British & Irish candidates who are also native speakers.
Working for an International School is commonly given as an easy solution but actually it is not the case either. They usually take the creme de la creme of teachers to fulfill positions and as you can see here, ask that people already have a status (e.g. Dutch residence permit) that means you are eligible to work in the Netherlands already http://www.ash.nl/index.php?option=com_c…
So before you plan your education around working here, check out what I am saying, check out the viability and then you can access if this is something you want to aim for as a realistic goal or not
Best of luck
