do you have to be a great public speaker to teach english in asia?We Answered:
i don't think you have to be a great public speaker to teach english in asia. What kind of english? like an english, rla class taught in schools that already speak english? or english as a second language? you might have to be a better speaker for a normal english class because the kids/students will already have a highish level of english; but after a while, it will DEFINITELY get easier (like we all say, practice makes perfect :D ) :) so don't worry. And if you are teaching and ESL class, you will need to start off with the basics, so it won't matter if your public speaking is good or not because what you say in english will need to be simple, like any other beginning language class... and you don't have to teach crowds if you teach english in asia. you can teach small classes, depending on where you're teaching and with who and stuff.Clifford Said:
I want to teach English in Asia, any advice or recommendations? We Answered:
I agree with inabox.Forget about if you speak the language or not. Your future bosses won't even want you to speak it in the classroom, and you can learn the language to get by when you get there. [That is, if you end up in a big enough city, which will be your call, you can get by on English.]
The JET program is difficult and tedious and if you are interested in starting sooner, you should not apply with them. Dave's ESL has many job offers if you want to see what is out there.
I can tell you that many public schools are hiring for the new year. So, if you already have a ppt, you can get into these programs [especially S. Korea] within the month. Also, there are people called recruiters. If you do a search for these companies and find a good one, you can use them to get a job. Just do a search for teaching English overseas and plenty of companies will appear. All come with mixed review so judge for yourself. There is kimnjoe.com, footprints.com, longbridgepacific.com, worknplay.com, netkorea.com and many more. You apply with them and they find you a job. Then, they charge your future boss for the time. You get a job for free.
I am going to S. Korea in a week with a recruiting company. I got a free plane ticket before I left, a pretty decent salary, a good contract and free housing.
Also, I know this is long but....never settle. Don't believe anyone if they tell you to hurry up and make a decision. You never need to make a decision in 24hours [some will tell you that, though!] Take your time. If something does not feel right, do not do it. There is plently more demand than supply so don't sell yourself short.

what is a good country in asia to teach english in?We Answered:
For money or for a relaxed "life experience"?It's difficult to get both. Thailand is sabai sabai but the pay isn't good. S Korea and Japan pay better, but ..
