Teach English in vietnam or korea?

We Answered:

Vietnam might be an exciting place to travel, but in terms of quality of living, Vietnam is nothing compared to South Korea.

South Korea's big cities are much safer, more technologically advanced, have better public transits and medical systems than Vietnam's big cities.

Dolores Said:

Does anyone know of any websites that provide info on teaching English in Vietnam?

We Answered:

My advise is that if you're looking for an English teaching job, Ho Chi Minh city is a better place than Hanoi, because the demand is higher. It's pretty much like Bangkok in Thailand. Otherwise, Hanoi is also okay if you like to live in a pleasant place. Take a look at this website for more recruitment information (updated everyday):

Can I teach English in Vietnam with a 20 hour course?

We Answered:

There have been some big changes to the visas rules and here's an example of how tough they're making it. A few months back I came across a little 8 year old boy minding cattle up in the mountains behind my place. He had a cleft lip. I organised an operation for him through that wonderful Organisation Operation Smile down in Saigon. It was a complete success. Four cops visited my place a week ago and informed me that while what I did was admirable it was also in violation of my tourist visa. (I live here fulltime, am married and own property by marriage.) According to them, if I want to engage in ''charitable work'' I need to apply for a work visa. I bit my lip, pleaded ignorance and that seemed to pacify them. Then a couple of days later this appeared in the online newspaper. If you plan to come here looking for work have all your paperwork, visa. and work permit in order or it could be a very short trip.
