Teach For America
Denise Said:
What subjects are available with Teach for America? We Answered:
TFA is designed to help districts fill their needs. No one argues that the arts is not important, but here is the issue:There is no relative need for fine arts.
WHAT? how could you say that?!?!
Its simply a case of numbers. Districts do not have difficulty filling their arts spots. At a typical high school, their might be one or two fine art teachers. This is sufficient to make sure that every child has access to an elective program.
Since kids need the traditional disciplines every year for their 4 years in high school....coupled with the massive need for math and science teachers nationwide... it certainly follows that districts can find their own fine art teachers easily and need help with subject area teachers.
really its just a numbers game.
to illustrate:
I teach at an urban Los Angeles middle school (for the last 17 years) My school offers to 2500 students....art - one teacher, music (band, foklorico, woodwinds) one teacher, stage - one teacher. In my 17 years there has been only one opening in these spots that was filled quickly.
I could have gotten you a job as a math or science teacher every year for the last 17. In fact... Its going on May and I could offer a math job *now*.
Lucy Said:
has anyone ever worked for "teach America" in Oakland California or the East Bay?We Answered:
I am in Los Angeles and have seen quite a few tfa kids pass through my school. It is a very selective program - with heavy interview requirements. There are tons of candidates for the few spots available - for example there are only 200 tfa kids in the bay area.
most of the info you seek is on their website.

Will doing Teach for America help me get into a better law school? We Answered:
From what I read about Teach for America, they have a lot of partnerships with different law programs. You can also actually apply for a law program, get in, and they will hold your acceptance until after you finish your program with Teach for America. I think it would definitely help you out, plus it will clear out some of your student loans from before and give you a sweet bonus for law school.Earl Said:
Is God using Obama to teach America a lesson? We Answered:
Obama is living proof of what $800 million and a biased media can buy you.Peggy Said:
Teach America-How much does this pay ?We Answered:
teach for america does not pay anything.your salary will come from the school district that hires you. Find a TFA kid and ask them how their placement system works - often you do not get to choose.
Im in Los Angeles - weve had TFA kids from Florida, Washington state, and Texas - all around.
