i think it is nice that you want to join Teach For India.

however, my personal opinion is that you should complete your studies first. you have just this one year left. finish it.
TFI will have fellowships every year - you can apply next year. and as they mention in their website, there will be a greater choice of cities too.
if you take a break in your studies, you never know what the future holds.

however, you can also talk to your professors, etc. I think they will be able to guide you best.
also be very clear about what you intend to do in future. this is a commitment which needs to be stuck through for 2 years, in a new locale, with culturally diff people..... next year you may even have the 'luxury' of the experience of 1st-timers to help you decide ;-)

India is a safe pace to stay & live.
However, rent rates in India are high- for ex. in mumbai a 1BHK flat for INR 10,000 is considered a "steal"!
Int'l teaching in India will definitely look better on a resume as teaching in India is on a totally different level than teaching in New Zealand or any other place for that matter!
