Teach In New Zealand
Bonnie Said:
I'm thinking of moving to New Zealand to teach. What is the teacher salary scale like there? We Answered:
Tania had an awesome answer - the current amounts are about 4% higher, but that's close enough. Bear in mind, though, that you won't be able to just get a job. You will need to have your teaching qualifications assessed by the NZ Qualifications authority to make sure that they are equivalent to NZ ones. This can take 6 or more weeks. If your diplomas are in Latin, you will need to provided a translation (personal experience there!) You will also need to be registered with the NZ Teachers Council www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz - there are several categories of registration, so you will need to see what you are able to get. Unlike many places, you can not substitute teach without being registered.Auckland will be most likely place to find a job, especially in primary. Secondary vacancies depend a lot more on subject.
Vacancies are advertised in www.edgazette.govt.nz
I am an American teaching in a NZ primary school but I did my teachers' college training here, which I think made things a lot easier.
Best of luck

Yes, you can teach people. (Educational purposes)There is nothing wrong with using software like this, unless you are breaching international copyright laws. (Piracy)

how does a teacher with a b.a. from the u.s. teach in new zealand? We Answered:
If you have a degree in education, you will need to get registered in New Zealand. That is done by the Teacher's Council. I'm not sure whether your US qualification with no experience will be enough. NZ teachers do two years as provisionally registered teachers before applying to be fully registered. You will also need to have the NZ Qualifications Authority assess your degree to make sure that your degree is as good as the NZ equivalent.
You will also need to get a job and a work visa.
A prerequisite to any of this is getting and FBI/police clearance. Do that while you are in the US as it is a pain to do from 10,000 + miles away.
The following website gives you more details about each of these.

Teaching in NZ is great - but very different to the US, especially at primary level - no textbooks, a national curriculum, and no specialists - I do everything - science, social studies, art, drama, dance, health, PE maths, reading, writing etc.
Keep in mind that our school year runs from February to December, although some jobs come up throughout the year.
Good luck
