Teach In Usa

Lucille Said:

What exams should a teacher from Europe take to teach in USA? Maybe you know a site about that.?

We Answered:

You will probably not be able to test until you emigrate.

With your degrees you should be able to get a temporary certificate to teach in many states with the understanding that you will complete tests and usually several courses to keep the certificate.

Check with the state governments of the places you are considering emigrating to for more information.

Leslie Said:

How can I teach in USA if I live abroad?

We Answered:

If you want to teach in a public school, you'll need to get a credential (essentially a piece of paper from the government saying you know how to teach) for that particular state. Each state has it's own list of hoops you'll have to jump through - do a google for "teacher credential" and the name of the state in which you're interested. Once you have the credential, you can apply to individual school districts. Many of them have online applications available.

For private schools, a credential is nice but not usually necessary. Figure out where you want to teach and what kind of students (high school, middle school, elementary, college-prep, learning disabled - that kind of thing) and, again, google for private schools in the area. Be aware that many private schools are a little more specialized than their public counterparts. Charles Armstrong, for instance, which focusses on dyslexia and learning disabilities, or a host of schools which are geared towards getting students into good colleges. Once you have the names and know something about the schools, you can start sending out resumes.

Now is a good time to be doing this, as many schools will be stating their hiring process for next year in the next month or two. Whatever you do, don't wait for June. The jobs available then are usually either due to last minute resignations or the like, or they indicate a school administration which is not particularly good at planning. It does not bode well.

Good luck!

Freddie Said:

What qualifications do I need to teach in USA?

We Answered:

First you need to be qualified to teach whether by Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college.

Determine what state you'd want to teach in and contact the local Department of Education in that area to learn about their requirements for teachers. This may vary from state to state, and even between districts. You'd need to be licensed to teach in that area.

If you're thinking short term teaching, perhaps an exchange teaching program?

What are my chances to teach in USA, am an accountant, with MBA degree, now taking up 39 units SPED courses?

We Answered:

if you are talking about k-12 and you are h1b visa worker from india or china it is very unlikely that you will get hired. k-12 education is one job area where typically the only people that ever get hired are american born citizens.
