Teaching Art To Children

April Said:

how to reach parents and artist that want to learn to teach children art? what newspapers, etc.?

We Answered:

This is a good question. Although most of my students are acquired through word of mouth when I first started I did a great deal of 'footwork'
.
I recommend all of these methods...not just one.
Make up a simple yet eye catching ad and start posting it all over in places such as:
Corner stores
School bulletins
Community Centres
Art supply stores
Grocery stores

You can also look into placing ads:
Community papers
Newsletters
Yellow pages
Local directories
Magazines
On-line directories
Personal website

For the really ambitious instructor who doesn't mind spending extra money try having fliers made and contact your local newspaper to see about inserting them in targeted areas.

Good luck finding students, it can be a very rewarding opportunity.

Anita Said:

what are the benefits for Using Art to Teach Children with Special Needs?

We Answered:

Its a hands on thing when it comes to special needs. Alot of them like the colours and the textures when it comes to art.
Its more exciting for them and a fun way to learn new things.

Katherine Said:

What is a good guide book to teaching children art?

We Answered:

Here are three books that might help. One shows how to teach middle schoolers the basics. Another teahces how to do tessellations which is a good way to teach symmetry. The thrid one teaches how to draw hands which could later help in developing the skills for doing a full body. There are several other books on this site that could help, but I think you can decide.

teaching art to children with color-blindness disability?

We Answered:

you can do web searches, go the national association for the blind, etc.

but really, just use your art training. color-impaired people can use the same medias, create drama, have probelms with perspectives, and make beautiful art as regular vision persons! I find black/white/gray allows you to focus on the subject, not the color fluff! And so many media don't even deal with color like sculpture, etching, clay, etc. Focus on the many many media they can use and the beauty they can create instead of worrying about what YOU think they can't see. I bet they can see more shades of gray than you can of colors! Help them explore!

Theodore Said:

If we teach children maths, chess and art from a very young age, will they develop into geniuses?

We Answered:

I have read that it is all in the upbringing that if parents encourage their kids, and give them a desire to succeed they will.

Tiger Woods is an example, a loving father recognised his sons ability with a golf club and look at where Tiger is today.

I don't know about Tiger's education, but I am certain the same principle will apply.

Lloyd Said:

how do I start to teach art to children?

We Answered:

Set goals with her. Break down bigger goals into smaller achievements, and give appropriate praise along the way. For example, the goal might be to have some really nice art to frame and hang in her bedroom in time for Spring cleaning/room makeover. I would use your state's Visual Arts Standards of Learning for high school students, and lead her in projects and learning based on her ability.

Emily Said:

Do you know any Websites on how to teach art to children, or how to work with children?

We Answered:

http://www.goshen.edu/art/ed/art-ed-link…

This is also depending on the type of art you want to teach.
Music, dance, paint, clay, drawing, building, etc.
What exactly do you want to teach them?
6 year olds do well with finger paints, pinch pots (usually the most fun and play dough is really cheap at a dollar store)
