Teaching Assistant Interview Questions

Jeff Said:

what kind of questions can i expect in a sen teaching assistant interview?

We Answered:

When I went in for mine this past week the teacher had never done it with a student from my school so she wasn't really sure. But I would suggest researching the school itself and the demographics (urban/rural, ethnicities, socio-economic status, etc) and have questions based on that. Also, classroom management, how often they have specials, that sort of thing. By asking the questions it will show that you are interested and want to know the details.
Good luck!

Virgil Said:

anyone got any tips on what interview questions i might be asked for a teaching assistant post please?

We Answered:

I think you'd probably get asked 'popular' interview questions such as:

What attracts you to this job?

Can you tell us about your positive/negative qualities?

Followed by more specific questions such as:

How would you deal with a child who was being disruptive in class?

What would you do if a child asked if s/he could tell you something but that you must keep it secret?

What would be your priorities when accompanying the class on a trip?

Usually, interviews for posts working with vulnerable people, such as very young children, involve you discussing what you could bring to the post, but also how you would deal with a situation which may not be black and white. Obviously, being aware of the children's welfare is of utmost importance and so would be something important to consider. This is especially so in response to a question like the 'secret' one-often people's answers to questions like this are clouded by trying to confirm to things like 'confidentiality', when infact the welfare of the children supercedes confidentiality.

Hope this helps a little and good luck with your interview.

Byron Said:

Questions i might be asked for a teaching assistant job interview in schools.?

We Answered:

I never interviewed for TA, but have had many interviews for teacher so I assume they will be similar. A lot of questions on classroom manangement and how to help students that are having trouble learning- English learners, students below average. Interaction with students-small group, individual.

Shelly Said:

teaching assistant interview question help !?

We Answered:

I would say: you would have first talked to the teacher in charge of the class about what to do in this instance (thus demonstration your professionalism and committment to the job, as you would probably have to do this in your own time), and you would act along the lines of the school's policy. you could also say that if you had not had the opportunity to talk to the teacher in advance, you would stand near to the student to try and work out why they were being disruptive (perhaps they cannot access the work) and help them to achieve.

Discuss It!
