Teaching Assistant Job Description

Kathleen Said:

Teaching Assistant questions?

We Answered:

Most often you can choose the school where you want to be a teacher assistant but not the subject or grade level. You go where they need you.

You help the teacher in whatever way she may need. That ranges from working with small groups of students at a center to grading homework papers.

It depends on the state, the school, private, public, and so on. Around the $18,000 level where I'm from.

Most teacher assistants are education majors in college working while completing their studies. Rules change per school and state. The public schools here require a college degree in education now. Some private schools only require a high school degree and experience with childcare.

You might try working part time at a daycare to see if you enjoy working with and teaching children. It's a hard job that not everybody is cut out for.

I've just spoken with a guy from 'RTR Reality' about a job teaching English abroad. Is it a scam?

We Answered:

The phone number (01924) is indeed a Wakefield, Yorks. code .. so that at least checks out ..

Unfortunately, "whois" does not return details of their web site, and I find nothing on Google (www.jobtoday.co.uk) ... and it really is rather too close to a legitimate address (www.jobstoday.co.uk) for my liking (a lot of scammers use addresses that are 'close to' real ones ... )

The web site has no contact details (for the web site) .. no names, addresses or phone numbers, so that in itself is rather suspicious - and the content of the site really is indeed a poor quality collection of links to mainly worthless 'online' job 'opportunities' ...

I had a bit more luck with RTR REALITY LTD - a company of that name does exist and I even found an adderess (29 Maythorne Ave, BATLEY. WS17 7DL) ... HOWEVER neither Google Earth or Streetmap.co.uk managed to show anything at this postcode (i.e, as far as I can tell, it does not exist :-) )

A further search revealed :-
Company Name:
RTR REALITY LTD

Company No: 05776774
Registered Office:
Incorporated: 11/04/2006 52 WELLINGTON STREET
BATLEY
WEST YORKSHIRE WF17 5HU
WF17 5HU

Company Type: Private Limited
Report Status: Full Data
Accounts Type: Dormant
Latest Accounts to: 30/04/2008
Latest Return to: 11/04/2008

.. and this address does exist = it's even on a 'main road' (so could be a shop /office) .. however I think it's most likley a private individual .. the job may (or may not) exist, but one thinks for sure, once you have flown out you can wave goodbye to any support from UK ..

I have a job interview on Tuesday for this job what can I expect?

We Answered:

Dress for success. Wear business clothing. No gum. Look the person in the eye when answering questions. Sit close to the interviewer. Firm handshake if he/she offers their hand first. Don't tell him ANY of your business, keep opinions to yourself. Be ready for the why you want to work for them question and what you hope to get from working there. Light on the scent and jewelry. very light on the makeup I don't know if you are a guy or girl. Be confident but respectful and walk in there knowing that they really need you.

Toni Said:

how to become a teacher assistant?

We Answered:

It depends on what state you live in. I know for NYS that you need to take a state test that is offered a few times a year. Once you pass that then you must be hired by the school district. If you look up your state and you find the requirments.

As for prior experience I think that most schools would look for that, but I don't know if its required. Just like any job you have to sell your skills.

Good luck.
