Teaching Certificate Illinois

Ernest Said:

How can I get a teaching certificate in Illinois if I don't have a bachelor's in teaching?

We Answered:

Go online to the Illinois State Board of Education website and look up certification. You would probably have to take 12-15 hours of teaching methods, adolescent psychology, and a practicum or student teaching. Get a name off the website for someone in the secondary certification department. Also, if you know the city you'd want to teach in, call someone at the superintendent's office and ask if they know whether the state will give temporary certification while you are working on requirements.

If I get a teaching certificate in Wisconsin, can i teach in Illinois?

We Answered:

Marquette is a great school! All you would need to do to teach in Illinois is take a state Illinois test (about $100) after you get your degree in WI.

Bessie Said:

If you have an Illinois teaching certificate, do you need to acquire another one to teach in Ohio?

We Answered:

Yes there is an agreement between the states. I found this in the link below.

"Certification for Teachers Certified in Other States

Ohio contracts with the following states to grant teaching licenses to individuals who hold standard teaching licenses in any of these states who are party to the contract: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine. Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana. Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Individuals may qualify for a license under the interstate agreement if they hold a standard certificate issued by a member state and have 27 or more months of teaching experience in the seven years preceding application for an Ohio license.

Out-of-state applications with fewer than three years of teaching experience can qualify for a Provisional Educator License and are required to complete an Entry Year Program provided by the school district that includes the assignment of a mentor, and a performance-based assessment (PRAXIS III). Individuals with more than three years of experience can qualify for a Professional Educator License.

All individuals must pass the appropriate PRAXIS II tests to receive their license. If they have had to pass the same tests for their out-of-state license, these scores may be submitted in lieu of taking the test.

All individuals must successfully complete a state and FBI background check."

I have an Illinois teaching certificate, can I teach in Tennessee?

We Answered:

Probably all that would be needed is a copy of your Illinois certificate.
You might also need a copy of your college transcript.

Marilyn Said:

Where in southern Illinois can I get my teaching certificate?

We Answered:

Contact your local school district or state department of education about an alternative certification program. Alternate certification programs have different requirments depending upon the state and district.

Some programs allow AC teachers to work in the classroom while taking the necessary education classes in the evenings. At the end of one year, you should be ready to take the necessary tests to earn your credentials.

If you have an Ohio teaching certificate, do you need to acquire another one to teach in Illinois?

We Answered:

You'll need to re-apply for certification in another state. You won't have to go through ed courses all over again.

I googled Illinois certification requirements and linked their Board of Ed site below.

How do I get my teaching certificate in illinois?

We Answered:

I am making an assumption that you are certified somewhere in another state. Illinois has regional education offices set up, and they are the main "communication" to the education state department. The address below is the regional site for southern Illinois, there is lots of information here. It walks you through the steps of certification and if you have any questions, they are very good about answering phone calls and emails.

I am certified in MO. To get a temp. cert, i just applied and they did the steps to tell me what i needed to meet their state requirements. I had to take a basic skills test as well as a test similar to the Praxis which MO. requires, and after reviewing my transcript, they decided I needed to take three more credit hours.
