The areas of Math and Science have a significantly higher chance of finding a job than say English or Social Studies. Science is considered a high need area and depending on your expertise in the field you could be a real asset to a school. However, budgets are tight and many jobs are being cut. It depends on each district and their demographics. To the south of me the school district is greatly expanding while everywhere else is stagnant or majorly cutting jobs. It is better to get a more local picture of the job network rather than just trying to look statewide.

Math is the only teaching area in which most everyone is hiring. You won't have a problem. You may have to apply to several districts, but you'll get hired.

You have to student teach because you are going for an education degree.

The alternative certification path is for those that already have a degree in something other than education, but want to get into teaching. There are course requirements and less classroom observation requirements. And then there is the 1 year "internship" year, where you work as a regular teacher but you are not paid like a regular teacher.

Teaching in the public school system has become a big bureaucratic process, and sorry to hear that you got tangled up in it.

Many states will let you teach for a year on another state's certification (with the understanding that by the end of the year you will have taken their certification exam).

Contact the state board of education certification for the state you are planning to move to. Each state should have a way for you to get certified pretty easily (for a fee and possibly a test).

Search for the Texas state department of education website and it will tell you about any alternative certification programs available. There are no "easy and cheap" ways to get a certificate, literally and figuratively. I would definitely be a substitute teacher before trying to get a certificate. It is not something you can walk into and just do; there are lots of other things involved in being a teacher besides teaching, namely discipline, long hours, and paperwork. Good luck.
