Teaching English As A Foreign Language Resources
Edgar Said:
How do you teach English as a foreign/second language to kindergarten children? Can you suggest any resources. We Answered:
There is a lot of interesting research out that explains what is best for children 6 years old and younger to learn a second language. The research has shown that complete immersion in the second language will be absorbed just as the initial language was. As the children get older, they have to make more conscious effort in order to learn another language, and more strategies and tools need to be used by the teacher. In my area, there is a Spanish immersion elementary school where all grades, K-5, are learning Spanish by immersion. They are immersed in the second language for 50% of the day, while the other 50% they use English (usually during math and English/reading, because of the need to do state testing).Ted Said:
What is the best resource based on which I can train my teachers to teach English as a foreign language? We Answered:
Have you thought about using an external school such as ICAL. We run teacher training courses online and work with a number of schools around the world training their staff for them.If you are intersted, please feel free to get in touch and discuss details.

How do I become an ESL teacher in a foreign country? We Answered:
Dave's esl cafe has lots of information about teaching English abroad, as well as discussion forums involving people who have been there, are there, etc. You'll learn a lot from these folks! The first source is the main page. The second one is the link to the forum about teaching is Spain specifically.
Best to you!

A pen pal to learn another language? Advice, is it a good idea? Any good resources? We Answered:
Yes, exchanging emails with a native speaker of your target language who wants to learn English is an *aid* to learning a foreign language. You would need to write in both English and your target language (and so would your penpal), in order that you both benefit.Once you find someone you are happy with, you could also try chatting on msn - I find this is more useful if you have a rather more advanced knowledge of your target language. Chat is a better medium than email for teaching, I think, but Answers is probably better if the questions are few and specific.

What is the difference between Teaching English as a second language and as a foreign language? We Answered:
ESL or ESOL is teaching English to students whose native language is not English and they are in school in an English speaking country, taking courses in English. It is helping them to accomadate.Teaching English as a foreign language would be done in a country where English is not the native language and the courses are not given in English.
There is a difference in the test and certificate.
Go to high school in a city and ask to interview a teacher of ESOL.Another source would be a college that offers ESL certification. English certification is needed for teaching English.
I just interviewed a student who came to the US from Korea 1& 1/2 years ago. She took English as a foreign language in Korea. I have spoken to teachers who spend a year in a foreign country teaching English. The student I interviewed for college took 1 1/2 months of ESL , there is a test to get out.
