Teaching english in South America? We Answered:
Much of the answer to pay depends on where you teach in Latin America. I have done quite a bit of research on this subject and it seems to me that the pay is quite bad and unless you are just looking for experience or wanting to learn Spanish (portuguese - Brazil) that you should look at other areas of the world. I would say on average you are looking at anywhere between $300 and $1000 a month at tops. Many of the schools in Latin America use nationals from their own country and pay them very little. I would start by looking at Dave's ELS list on the internet. He lists jobs all over the world. You might like to teach in Spain. If you are looking for a good source (free) to build your Spanish vocabulary you may like the email list at http://www.spanishwordoftheday.comBetty Said:

Teaching English Abroad: How to deal directly with schools in South America? We Answered:
Firstly you should NEVER pay an agent to find you a job no matter how desperately you need the work. They are paid by the schools and not by the teachers. To find work in South America there are 4 main options.
1. Go online and see what's advertised there. This is an obvious and cheap first option. If you're qualified then you could well secure a job before you even pack your bag.
2. Trawl the internet for as many schools as you can in the place where you want to go. Simply prepare a good email asking for work and send it off to them. If you send out enough, sooner or later you should get a positive response back.
3. Use an agent. Without paying them! There are several reputable agents working in S. America and they may be able to find work for you (if you're qualified).
4. Go down there and find work by knocking on doors. Decide where you want to go, prepare a plan and go there and find work.
And it's as simple as that! :)
