I don't think that is being taught in schools. But if she were to spend 5 minutes on Answers, in the USA - immigration section, she would see those kinds of responses.

I am ashamed of many of my countrymen's attitudes. All I can do is control mine, and set an example that some might choose to follow.

here is a good run down of this occupation in America. Don't know much about Ireland education, but teaching at the primary school level here is pretty good. The salary information seems a bit inflated to me, but everything else looks okay.

I wouldn't ever teach at the middle school level here. The kids are horrible at that age and it also makes a difference WHERE you teach. If you get into a low socioeconomic middle or high school, you and the kids will likely have to go through medal detectors every day and pass armed guards at the door.

There have been studies done in this particular area, and the conclusion was that teachers from these programs were indeed shortchanging the children and the community. One result was that the veteran teachers had better results than these teachers in test scores.

The point of the programs is that because the potential applicants are bright students from top colleges, they can, with "training", teach the students with little or no experience. The "training" that they do give you is very rigid, and seems to me, to emphasize too much on testing skills, and too little on actual fluid knowledge.

You would need to check certification requirements with whatever state you were thinking of moving to. But they are slashing jobs everywhere - including schools.
