Teaching In Canada

Douglas Said:

How easy is it to get into teaching in Canada?

We Answered:

Just contact the Cannadian immigraiton authorities. If you have job qualifications in need, they will be interested.
There are legal companies that work in this, but they will probably charge a fee:

But contact the governmental offices. They will have all the info. Here is the official source of information:

Where Can I Get My Bachelor's Degree For Teaching In Canada?

We Answered:

Try the University of British Columbia (UBC). I read in the catalog that it has several different campuses. Chances are the building that has the Teaching department is close enough to the location of your choice.

Norman Said:

I am thinking of teaching in Canada next year, what do I need to do?

We Answered:

You need to check with the Canadian Embassy and determine what visa requirements you need to be able to work as a teacher in Canada. Before you do that, however, I would recommend you checking with the Canadian Board of Education and determine if you are eligible and qualified to teach in Canada. Good luck.

Can i teach in Canada with a New Zealand teaching qualification?

We Answered:

You could teach how to grow Kiwis, for example. The Canadians don't have the knowledge like you to do that...

Teaching jobs in Canada: Can I teach in Canada with my professional teaching qualifications from Singapore?

We Answered:

Teaching in Canada is not an easy task and can be a large financial undertaking. I am a Canadian citizen but have completed all of my college education in the United States. I have extensively researched moving back home to teach and have found the following to be true (in British Columbia, at least):

- You must submit your transcripts for review. Review will cost at least $250 (non refundable).
- You are required to have studied at least 6 credits in Canadian Studies.
- If approved, you will have to pay $500 fee to have your licence transferred.

From Canadian friends also pursuing education, teaching jobs are few and far between in Canada at the moment. They do not have the shortage like we do here in the United States. Many teachers are only given year long contracts and not guaranteed a renewal.

You will also have to consider immigration laws and procedures if accepted.

Franklin Said:

Do I need a Canadian teaching degree in order to teach in Canada?

We Answered:

In Canada teaching certification is determined by Province, each province having its own department which has authority in Education.
Generally a Department of Education will want a Bachelor of Education degree or something equivalent. It does not have to be from a Canadian University, degrees from the United Kingdom are usually recognized as equivalent without issue; but some foreign university degrees are not recognized.
In Ontario you will need a Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers. You should contact the Ontario Ministry of Education for further information:
