English teaching positions for foreigners in Dubai?

We Answered:

Requirements:
Requirement will depend based on the class level that you will be teaching. The higher the class, the heavier the requirements will be. A good degree level education and Teaching Experience of 1 to 2 years or even more are the basic requirements for most teaching jobs.

Native English Spakers or not ? :
Most Dubai Jobs that I have read clearly state that they seek people from UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia or Ireland and other similar countries. If you have excellent communication skills, teaching skills, I don't think there is any bar based on your tongue! One could be native and not have other requirements met, yet one could be none native but be an excellent candiate of other requirements. Most english teachings are not only about written English, but also about the Spoken English. If you are master of the both, nothing will stop you.

Degree in TOEFL or Cambrdige ?:
Not many accept TOEFLs but Bachelors Degree

Types of Schools:
Mostly Private Schools

Can I hold private Lessons ?:
Yes you can.

UAE

General info: If you're interested in heading to the UAE, there is surely a great journey ahead of you. The UAE is made up of seven sovereign sheikhdoms, which were formed in 1971 as the British withdrew from the Gulf...?The UAE is an oil-rich environment which contributes to the need for qualified ESL teachers who have qualifications and experience. It also offers a less restrictive lifestyle than some other countries in the Gulf.

on a personal note, I looked into teaching there after getting my TEFL certificate (plus my 3 yr BSc), but found that it seemed to be a minimum requirement to have an education degree - bachelors at a MINIMUM but more often a post-grad degree as well. Also it is often required to have minimum 3 years experience, plus teaching business English experience is highly regarded.

My brother lives there currently, and is loving it. He's been there for 15mths, as a consultant. From what he says, his female colleagues don't seem to have many troubles, Dubai is about 75% ex-pats and is very different to many of their neighbours in terms of their view towards women.

Rent is expensive and you normally need to pay 12 months in advance, but many companies and banks provide residential loans, so they pay your 12 months and then you repay your loan each month.

Good luck!
