What are the pros and cons of Primary School teaching in London? We Answered:
Pros are that there are SOME fantastic primary schools - mainly in the outer boroughs - think Kingston/Richmond/Sutton/Bromley etc. Of course the entry to these good schools is rigged by rich parents being able to buy in these areas. (something that makes me sick btw) Lots of the best primaries are also CoE or Catholic schools.London primaries are usually much better than the secondaries - indeed Richmond has terrible secondaries as parents generally send their kids private.
Cons - some schools will be dreadful and starved of resources by poor local authorities.
Cost of living/getting to work much higher than outside London.
Edit 1 - Just thought of something else. Primary jobs (certainly in the "better" schools) are harder to get than secondary jobs as there is no shortage of new graduates who have done primary school teaching for their degree. There is also a heavy imbalance of women over men as primary school teachers, hence schools are often interested in snapping up men quickly.

What are the requirements for teaching in london? We Answered:
QTS- Qualified Teacher Status. This comprises of a degree plus British teaching qualification. If you are a teacher from overseas, you may teach on a temporary basis but will have to re-train if offered a permanant contract. This is due to the vast differences in teacher training worldwide (e.g. in some countries it is 'exam based' and in others of a low status so people without full degrees get to be teachers) is unfortunately for the overseas trained teachers the government insist on -retraining. You re-train 'on the job' and are paid, however (if you fail, though, you lose your job).
You need to be a little harder to last in big cities than in nice suburban areas, but that isn't just London- it applies everywhere.
