Teaching In New Zealand
Jessie Said:
Do you recommend teaching in New Zealand? We Answered:
Not with a face like that! LolJust joking!
Well I've just finished 13 years of school in New Zealand and I'd say it's pretty hard work. Students have become increasingly rude and violent along with their parents.
I've heard stories of primary school (5years-11years) students swearing and hitting their teachers. I've heard other stories of teachers being hit with chairs and bringing other objects from home. Also stories of parents coming in and abusing teachers.
Of course this happens everywhere now-a-days. New Zealand is a beautiful, friendly place and living here is great, but don't expect it everyone to be super-human and it to be all perfect. Basically, just don't get your hopes up.
This terrorism isn't planes crashing into big buildings. All it is at the moment is fire-arm charges being called something different. We probably will never know the full story, but I'm personally not worried about it.
Teachers have recently received a pay rise and they're due for another one. I'm not sure where you are thinking of emigrating from but New Zealand teachers get paid less than Australian and United Kingdom teachers.
If possible, come and visit before you make the big move.
Good luck.

Can I teach in New Zealand with a Working Holiday Visa?We Answered:
Once you've had your teaching qualifications recognised in New Zealand, you will be able to work there while you're on a Working Holiday visa. You can only work for up to 12 months even if you have a 23 month visa but if you find you really love the country and would like to stay, you're able to apply for a work permit - Primary School Teacher is on the Immediate Skills Shortage List for 7 regions so you would probably have little trouble getting one. Because the occupation is on the ISSL, you also shouldn't have too much trouble finding work while on your WHV if you're looking in the regions of shortage with the greatest demand being in Auckland.Guy Said:
Student Teaching in New Zealand...?We Answered:
FIrst of all, you need to learn a bit about NZ! You will need to understand some basic protocol for working with Maori students. Be open to the experiences and viewpoints of another country. Know that things will be different to what you are used to and it isn't necessarily better or worse, but it works for us.When I was at teachers' college, the lecturers used to talk about how challenging American students found student teaching in NZ because we have basically no textbooks. Our curriculum allows a lot of school and teacher choice in what and how we teach. Your associate teacher will expect you to do fairly extensive planning as you are a student, although he or she will help you - the ideas for lessons will come from you. Have a look at
http://englishonline.tki.org.nz
www.nzmaths.org.nz
and www.tki.org,nz
for ideas about what sort of units you might be asked to plan
We have a new curriculum from 2010, and there are links to it from tki.org
Look to learn as much as you can from your colleagues and students. make the most of being in NZ.

Certificate in Yoga Teaching in New Zealand???We Answered:
Unless they have recently changed the requirements, it should not be a problem providing that she meets the eligibility required for her working visa. Different employers may require certain certifications, but with her experience, she sounds like she is very qualified. I've looked into it as I was considering moving there to teach as well. I wish her the best!As far as I know, New Zealand does not require a certificate unless they recently changed their requirements
