Teaching In South Africa

Bobby Said:

Teaching Degree in South Africa?

We Answered:

Well, actually all these "online university degree" things are scams...notice how the only thing they want is a credit card number? Alright, you got your BA so you will just need to go to graduate school. The University of Johannesburg has an excellent reputation, I would suggest getting a Masters Degree in Education. It takes (like any MA) two years to complete...but your salary would be significantly higher. If you want to teach in South Africa, you would be best to go to teacher's college there, specializing in whatever you decide to teach...

Good luck!

Marvin Said:

Is the teaching Grade of South Africa better than that of America's?

We Answered:

Your question is not clear.
Are you asking for peoples' opinion as to whether a South African education is superior to that of the U.S.? Or are you asking whether they "grade" better?

I believe you are correct with many of your statements, and your pride in your country is evident. It has been my experience that nearly every South African I have met has been extremely well-educated, well-read and well-spoken. Of course, these are all South Africans that I have met here in the U.S.

However, for those who complete college, though they probably do become very wealthy, esp. by So.African standards, I would be interested to know what percentage of the population does become college-educated. I would also have to wonder, if you are taught the entire history of your country in 4 months if there is anything that is left out. Do they address every bit of So. African history in a scholarly manner or is there left out the difficult or unsettling aspects of the history of South Africa? I am not asking this in an adversarial manner, but would be interested to know.

I think that higher mathematics learning is much better in the educated sectors of many other countries (esp. Asia) than it is here in the U.S. but my understanding is that the U.S. is rapidly catching up!
Overall though, I would have to say, though many college-educated people in the U.S. have never even been exposed to trigonometry, the average American is better educated than the average non-American, just due to the free education provided by our government.

The biggest change that I've seen in the last 20 years is that foreign students (or more accurately, children of foreign-born parents) are excelling and far out-performing American students, and this is to the betterment of all concerned. My feeling is that this is because people who were raised in other countries place a much higher value on education. It wasn't just handed to them by their government on a silver platter, and they emphasize to their children what a privilege it is to get to learn and really encourage them to prioritize and prize their education.

Ronald Said:

Teaching in rural South Africa? I have an essay and need to know the conditions of the classroom.?

We Answered:

Varies from region to region. In some places classes can be up to 50 with dirt floors, no paper, pens or books. In other places classes may be as small as 25 with all the mod. cons.
Go to South African web and search.

I am an American looking for teaching work in Rustenburg, South Africa. Can anyone help on where to start?

We Answered:

Sure, depending on what subjects you teach, ie high school, primary, college etc, all the contacts are available on SA search engines including e-mail address of educational institutions in Rustenburg and send them enquiries, im sure they will be able to assist you.

Leon Said:

What Qualifications do i need to study teaching in South Africa?

We Answered:

This needs the personal presence of yourself at that place(s). They need teachers and they need it in their language, which you have to practice from them. At present, though developed, South Africa is looking for teachers and professionals for the overall development of their countries, but the outsiders are not kind enough, but try to snatch what is possible. Be sympathetic and get into the ship for SA.
