Teaching In Taiwan
Louise Said:
Anyone know of any legitimate teaching companies/schools in Taiwan? We Answered:
if you look into a placement agencies make sure that the employer pays the fee for hiring you to the teaching job. Some will ask for a minumm fee from you, some will ask that you pay a percentage of your earnings, around here they are not really legitimate.
they will work harder if they make money only if you get a job.

Has anyone used Asian Consultants International to get a teaching job in Taiwan? We Answered:
Good luck getting a job here now. It is tough. I have teaching experience here, plus a masters degree and it took me 4 months to get a job here. My first time - years ago - it was dead easy. I showed up with nowhere to live, no friends, no chinese, no job and $400 - I had a good job in 3 days and left 7 months later with over $10,000 in my pocket. That simply isn't possible here anymore.More specific to your question - Julie at Asian Consultants will try to help you out if she can - but be aware that obviously they are taking a cut of the pay that the school would have paid to you in exchange for placing you there. ie. The school might have been willing to pay you 700 NT an hour. Instead you'll get 600 NT because the school has to pay ACI.

Is there a way to get hired for a teaching position in Taiwan? We Answered:
There are still a few schools that won't require you to have a BA, but not many. It seems most schools in Asia will require a BA & a TEFL certificate. Some places will let you teach with just the TEFL cert if you have experience.I have been teaching abroad for 2 years now in Prague. Most schools don't require teachers to have a degree as long as they are TEFL certified. You could always get your certificate, teach for a year and then try to go to Taiwan. But you really won't get hired without at least a TEFL cert. I'll post the link to where I got mine. Ilearned a lot and they have great help with finding work after graduation.
Good luck!
