Teaching In Thailand
Arnold Said:
What are some jobs in Thailand that foreigners can do besides teaching? We Answered:
there is always seasonal work available in my townMarsha Said:
how can i find a teaching job in thailand? would it be easy?We Answered:
there are many opportunities in Thailand but i doubt the pay would be significantly any better. Private language schools do seem to offer a good deal for teachers. depends where in Thailand you want to be but Bangkok and Pattaya both have English typed papers you could get details on line to advertise yourself or read classified sectionsJeanne Said:
Does anyone know any teaching contacts in Thailand? We Answered:
One thing you will learn about Thailand is that nothing is ever black or white. The whole area of visa regulations and work permits is full of grey areas, loopholes, confusions and exceptions - half the time even the Immigration Control people in Thailand get it wrong, or apply different interpretations depending on the luck of the draw.
The degree is an issue because a work permit may be refused without it. From time to time they issue edicts to that effect and then issue work permits to people without degrees! Go figure.
Your best bet is to go to Ajarn.com and ask around there. The guys there will know the latest situation on the ground. Very often what's officially announced and what is actually happening there are quite different.
Good luck!

Is it possible for a foreigner without any teaching experience to teach in Thailand? We Answered:
I have spent a total of 7 months teaching in Zambia, my first 3 months, I had no training at all- yet the teacher that I was shadowing went through all of the aspects of teaching with me, explaining what she was doing and why. Without this, I doubt that I would have become confident or competent enough to teach by myself! What you have to remember, is that the teachers at the school want to see the students benefit from your stay- they won't throw you in at the deep end; they will most likely put you with a class and their teacher for a short while whilst you observe the lessons.
There are several books available that you can buy- Learning Teaching, by Jim Scrivener is an exceptional book- it takes you through all of the different steps of planning and executing the lesson. As you are going to a developing country, I would recommend 'Lessons From Nothing'- as the title suggests, it goes through the planning of lessons with limited resources. Finally- a dictionary!! I have used this countless of times.
Hope this helps!

Efficient way to Travel SE Asia before teaching in Thailand? We Answered:
You can begin by arriving in Sri Lanka. From there, you can fly into India, preferably New Delhi and stay for a few days and move onwards by road (bus) into Nepal. From Nepal again you'll need to fly to Kolkata, India and travel by train up to the Indo-Myanmarese border. Cross by road/ river ferry into Myanmar and travel by road to Yangon. From Yangon, you can travel with any organized tour company that will take you to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and eventually bring you to Thailand. Budget carrier Air Asia also connects Bangkok with Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. You can then travel to Malaysia by train and onwards to Singapore by road or train.Agnes Said:
Teaching Thailand in March onwards!?We Answered:
I assume you are teaching in a government public school. Your contract runs out in Feb because that is at the end of the school year. School will not start back up until the beginning of May so you may find work but you wouldn't start until end of April beginning of May.Being that you teach here now you should know this of course. Did the school or you ask to renew the contract? Is it you don't want to teach at this school? Since you must be qualified to teach I think you wouldn't have a problem finding another job unless there are things you're not saying. I also don't see much chance of making a lot more money teaching somewhere else. Even me with my terrible English get asked over and over again if I want to Teach.
Also, I think it would be wisher of you to ask this question at http://www.ajarn.com then here on YA.
added: The only other thing is that schools do have these English Camps, but they are for short periods of time, some a few days others a week or two. They are hit and miss, word of mouth is the best way to let people know your interested in Teaching during the summer months until the next term.
