Teaching Jobs In Bc

Marcia Said:

Why are Americans crazy enough to quit their jobs in this Economy?

We Answered:

I'm an American... I didn't quit my job, I was laid off permanently due to the economy, and the company I worked for shut down and moved to Mexico to save $$$. The only ones that seem to be quitting their jobs are the people in high ranking $$$ positions. They have enough money saved to live comfortably until they find something better.

Steve Said:

I dont have a job bc God is teaching me a lesson?

We Answered:

Yes.

Write your goals on paper. Short & long range goals. Short for the day and long range for the future. Give them to the Lord in prayer. Write steps as to what needs to be done that day and what needs to be done to achieve your long range goal. Give these to the Lord in prayer.

All things work for the good for those who trust in the Lord.

So then trust God to give you opportunities. And remember to tithe on all your increase as a thank you to the Lord.

We should ask God for direction for all important things in life. Like our jobs, our spouse, our marriage, having children, etc.

Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you!

Jesus!

He is a light unto our path and lamp unto our feet.

Zachary Said:

what types of teaching jobs are in demand in BC (preferably Vancouver)?

We Answered:

First, if you move over here, don't forget that you need to be certified to teach in BC. Those with a BEd from BC can also teach in Alberta. So, this might be another thing to check into.

As for the teaching, I am on Vancouver Island, so can't say for sure what the jobs are like on the mainland, but I know here it is VERY competitive. It's not uncommon to sub for 5-7 years before you get your own classroom. With that said, the mainland is a huge area, so you would probably have a better chance there. I am going for my Post BEd, so know what I am in for once I get my BEd.

For specialization, I was told that the following 3 are wonderful to have as they might help you get in quicker for elementary education:

ESL
French
Special Needs

There are so many "regular" teachers, so having something extra can't hurt. I was also told this by a principal of an elementary school.

To find out what is needed, you could look at job listings from each district and see what they are asking for. When I did this I saw a lot of special needs and ESL. This would at least give you an idea of what schools are looking for.

You don't have to just go to a public school. I spoke with a private school and they do their own hiring. They have a sub list, so it isn't as competitive to get a full time position because they interview the subs who want to work full time. They do this in public schools as well, but there are sooooooo many subs.

Good luck!

serious marriage question. welcome all advice! :)?

We Answered:

i've been there before and I don't know what to say about it because it almost broke my marriage apart, but the thing that helped us was compromising. It sounds like to me you were being compromising to your husband when yall moved, but now with things are bad one of you or both have to compromise something. Don't look at this job as a dead end, look at it as a means to begin to fix what's wrong right now and then when things are back to somewhat normal, then look at other options. I mean My husband went without a job for 2 years and I worked 2 jobs that I didn't like for the sake of the household and my children. Yes, in a way I did resent him and that may happen, but it's apart of nature at times. It's how you look at the situation and if u want to stay where u are and suffer more, that choice is up to you. If you have children there is no room to choose it's their welfare that's important, if not then yes you have a choice to make. I recommend that you pray if you are a person that believes in it, if not I pray that whatever decision u make it works for the benefit of your marriage you are going to need it.

Oscar Said:

What would happen to those teachers in BC whose schools closed down?

We Answered:

I think in many cases the teachers are reassigned to other schools - if they have sufficient seniority and a continuing assignment at the school which closed. In many districts the schools that closed were smaller schools so it was easier to reassigned displaced teachers through attrition (leaves, retirements, etc.) If a teacher has less seniority or a temporary position they would need to apply for another position through the post and fill process.

Bobby Said:

How much does a Secondary teacher earn in BC?

We Answered:

As per your question on salary, check out the British Columbia Teachers' Federation website:

http://bctf.ca/SalaryAndBenefits.aspx?id…

There are about 60 districts from the look of that site, and all salary grids are not the same. Generally, starting wage in BC is about 40K for 0 yrs experience and a 4 yr Bachelors degree, and in the high to mid 60's for 10yrs of experience. If you are looking to find a job, contacting them for names and addresses of school contacts would be a start.
